Job Summary

Aster is seeking an Assistant Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join the Maintenance team within the Bukom integrated petrochemical complex. In this role, you will provide technical support, coordinate maintenance activities, and help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical equipment and systems across the site.

The Maintenance team safeguards the integrity, availability, and reliability of critical electrical assets supporting refinery and petrochemical operations. This includes preventive and corrective maintenance of power distribution systems, generators, motors, drives, control systems, and hazardous area equipment, while maintaining compliance with regulatory and HSSE requirements.

This role is well suited for someone with hands-on electrical maintenance experience in the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation, or related process industries. You will work closely with Operations, Engineering, contractors, and other stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, improve equipment reliability, and support the continuous and safe operation of the integrated site.

In this role, you will gain exposure to large-scale refinery and petrochemical operations, work with experienced technical teams, and contribute directly to the reliability and safety of critical site infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and coordinate electrical maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems across the integrated refinery and petrochemical complex.
  • Execute and support preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities for critical electrical equipment, including power distribution systems, generators, motors, variable speed drives (VSDs), UPS systems, PLCs, and hazardous area (Ex) equipment.
  • Support equipment reliability and plant availability through effective troubleshooting, root cause identification, and timely maintenance interventions.
  • Develop work method statements, risk assessments, job specifications, and maintenance scopes to support safe and efficient work execution.
  • Manage contractors and specialist vendors, ensuring maintenance activities are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and HSSE expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Technology, Engineering, and Procurement teams to plan and execute maintenance activities with minimal impact to plant operations.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance history, ensuring updates are properly controlled and documented.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, and operational performance.
  • Promote a strong HSSE culture through active participation in safety audits, toolbox meetings, Go-and-See initiatives, and Permit-to-Work (PTW) processes.
  • Support site electrical safety and compliance duties in accordance with applicable regulations, company standards, and assigned authorization levels where required.

Required Qualifications

  • Preferred Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline with relevant electrical maintenance experience, or ITE qualification with strong hands-on experience in a similar industrial environment.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in electrical maintenance within the Petrochemical, Oil, & Gas industry, with a positive work attitude and strong commitment to safe, reliable, and disciplined work execution.
  • Strong capability in electrical circuit interpretation, troubleshooting, and maintenance execution, with experience managing contractors and engaging diverse stakeholders. Able to communicate effectively with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams including Operations, Engineering, and Technologists.
  • Familiarity with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Confined Space Entry, Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, and clearance application processes. Comfortable working at heights and capable of safely accessing elevated work areas when required.
  • Electrician's License and/or CompEx Certification will be an advantage. Willing and capable of working safely on high-voltage electrical systems up to 22 kV, and able to use respiratory protective equipment as required.
  • Able to travel safely within the worksite as required for operational and maintenance activities. Possession of a valid Class 3 driving licence will be an advantage.
  • Willingness to participate in standby duties when required.

Aster offers a dynamic technical environment where employees can build practical maintenance expertise, work on complex industrial assets, and contribute to safe and reliable operations across an integrated energy and chemicals site.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
