AS/400 Operations Support Engineer
Work Location: Central,Singapore
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced AS/400 Operations Support professional to manage the day to day operation, monitoring, maintenance and production support of the IBM i environment and SUBS8 application across Production, UAT and DR environments. The role will cover user administration, batch monitoring,backup and recovery, system maintenance, deployment support, incident coordination, disaster recovery and audit activities, while working closely with application, infrastructure and network teams and in tandem with the Data Centre Team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor the IBM i environment and SUBS8 application, including system status, system messages, disk utilization, thresholds, alerts and scheduled processing.
- Monitor and support SUBS8 Start of Day processing, scheduled batch jobs and downstream processing, investigating failures and carrying out authorized reruns and recovery actions.
- Perform AS/400 and SUBS8 user administration, including user creation, modification, deletion, password resets, access provisioning, access removal and user exit activities.
- Perform backup and recovery operations, including backup monitoring, tape rotation, off site tape coordination, object and file restoration, archival activities and maintenance of backup records.
- Support system and application deployments, including AS/400 development deployments and other approved SUBS8 deployment activities, in coordination with the Data Centre Team where applicable.
- Perform system administration and maintenance activities such as scheduled IPLs, PTF application, SSL certificate renewal, SFTP setup and configuration, printer support and hardware replacement coordination.
- Provide operational incident and problem support by performing initial investigation, troubleshooting, standard recovery procedures and coordination with relevant application, infrastructure, network and technical teams.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity activities, including DR environment support, scheduled IPLs, backup and restoration activities, DR testing and remediation of issues identified during exercises.
- Support audit, compliance and operational governance activities by maintaining user access records, backup records, deployment records, PTF records, tape inventory records, DR evidence and other required documentation.
- Maintain operational schedules and controls, including Robot Schedule calendars, holiday schedules, periodic password changes, Update Access Key renewal and other recurring operational activities.
- Perform other related tasks as when required.
Job Requirements:
- A Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Science, IT, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of hands on experience in AS/400, IBM i or similar enterprise system operations and production support environments.
- Strong understanding of IBM i system administration, operational monitoring, batch processing, job scheduling, backup and recovery procedures.
- Experience with user and access administration, password management, access control procedures and user termination activities.
- Experience supporting Production, UAT and DR environments, including scheduled IPL activities and disaster recovery operations.
- Familiarity with IBM i technologies and tools such as Robot Scheduler, iCluster, Halcyon, Security Monitoring Facility, Aldon, SendQuick Alert, CL programs, RPG programs and Query/400 would be advantageous.
- Experience troubleshooting operational incidents and coordinating with application, infrastructure, network, vendor and other technical support teams.
- Experience supporting system changes and technical activities such as PTF application, SSL certificate renewal, SFTP configuration, deployments and hardware replacement.
- Good understanding of backup management, tape operations, data restoration, operational documentation, audit requirements and business continuity procedures.
- Strong communication, coordination, troubleshooting and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Data Centre Team and other stakeholders.
