Job Summary
The Assembly & Test Engineer supports day-to-day equipment assembly, integration, setup, testing, and production activities for Equipment Manufacturing projects.
The role provides technical support to assembly and test technicians, resolves routine production and equipment issues, supports New Product Introduction (NPI), maintains production documentation, and works with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, Project teams, and customers to ensure equipment is built according to approved requirements.
The position acts as a technical bridge between production technicians and senior engineering or management teams.
The role may require overseas travel and assignment for approximately 1 to 2 months at a time when required by project or business needs.
Job Description
1. Production and Assembly Support
- Provide technical support for daily sub-module assembly, final assembly, equipment integration, setup, and testing activities.
- Review project requirements, drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, and relevant engineering documentation.
- Support Production Leads in preparing equipment build plans, work sequence, and technical tasks.
- Assist technicians in resolving assembly and integration issues.
- Ensure production follows approved build instructions, SOPs, customer requirements, and engineering changes.
- Escalate major or complex technical issues to the Senior Engineer or responsible Engineering team.
2. Equipment Setup and Testing
- Support equipment power-up, setup, functional testing, and qualification activities.
- Assist technicians in executing approved setup and test procedures.
- Review test observations and results and identify abnormalities requiring investigation.
- Troubleshoot routine mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, assembly, and integration issues.
- Coordinate with Senior Engineers or relevant Engineering teams for complex or recurring problems.
- Compile build and test issues and coordinate technical feedback to customers where required.
3. Technician Support and Training
- Provide technical guidance to assembly and test technicians.
- Train and certify technicians on assembly processes, tools, equipment, work instructions, and customer requirements.
- Support technician skill-matrix and competency evaluations.
- Share troubleshooting knowledge and lessons learned with production staff.
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting records or guides for future reference.
4. Process Improvement
- Collect and review production information such as build time, cycle time, yield, defects, and downtime.
- Recommend improvements to production workflow, layout, assembly methods, and equipment setup.
- Support development of jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, and mistake-proofing solutions.
- Participate in Lean, 5S, Kaizen, OPEX, and continuous improvement activities.
- Support collection and verification of standard build and test hours.
5. Quality and Process Control
- Ensure assembly and testing activities comply with internal quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable procedures.
- Act as checker for applicable in-process and production checklists.
- Participate in MRB reviews and provide production technical input.
- Support root-cause analysis, CAPA, 8D, and investigation of recurring production issues.
- Conduct briefings or training arising from customer quality requirements and lessons learned.
6. Engineering Change and Documentation
- Prepare and update production work instructions, SOPs, checklists, and process documentation.
- Review Engineering Changes affecting production and support implementation on the production floor.
- Train production personnel on changes affecting equipment assembly or testing.
- Maintain accurate records of deviations, corrective actions, and production technical issues.
- Ensure production uses the latest approved documentation.
7. New Product Introduction
- Support pilot builds, first-article builds, engineering validation builds, and transfer to production.
- Participate in customer or project meetings related to new product introduction and first-article builds.
- Highlight schedule, build, material, and technical risks to the Production Lead and project team.
- Provide manufacturability and assembly feedback based on production experience.
- Support estimation and validation of assembly and test hours for new projects.
- Document lessons learned and support handover to repeat or volume production.
8. Cross-Functional and Customer Support
- Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, Project, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design Engineering teams.
- Respond to internal technical enquiries related to production builds.
- Support customer enquiries related to equipment build, setup, and testing.
- Coordinate shop-floor technical issues with Production Leads and technicians.
- Support equipment maintenance and calibration activities where required.
9. Overseas Assignment
- Support equipment assembly, installation, setup, testing, qualification, modification, and troubleshooting at overseas manufacturing or customer sites.
- Be prepared to travel overseas for assignments typically lasting 1 to 2 months when required.
- Work closely with customers, local teams, and internal engineering personnel during overseas assignments.
- Provide regular progress, issue, and risk updates to the Production Lead and relevant stakeholders.
- Comply with company and customer-site safety, quality, and operational requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Precision Engineering, or related discipline.
- Relevant experience in semiconductor equipment, automation equipment, precision equipment, or complex machine assembly and testing is preferred.
- Candidates with strong hands-on equipment assembly and testing experience may also be considered.
Key Skills and Attributes

- Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, cable diagrams, and technical documentation.
