Job Description: The Cost Accountant will be responsible for managing and analysing product costs, inventory valuation, Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy and costing, and variance analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cost accounting principles and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance cost efficiency and financial accuracy across products and projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Accounting, Analysis & Reporting
o Calculate and analyse product costs, including direct labour, materials, and overhead allocations.
o Develop and maintain product/project cost models, budgets and cost assumptions based on approved BOMs, development requirements and available commercial information.
o Prepare detailed monthly cost reports and highlight key cost movements, variances and cost drivers.
o Monitor cost trends and identify potential cost risks, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
o Support management with product cost and profitability analysis.
2. Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
o Ensure the accuracy and completeness of BOMs for all products and projects.
o Collaborate with the engineering, production, and procurement teams to update and maintain BOM records.
o Analyze BOM changes and their impact on product costs, project budgets and profitability.
o Perform regular audits of BOMs against actual usage and procurement costs and investigate discrepancies.
3. Inventory Valuation & Reconciliation
o Ensure accurate costing and valuation of inventory, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
o Perform regular physical inventory reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
o Assist in establishing and maintaining inventory costing methods aligned with company policies.
4. Variance Analysis
o Analyze material, labour, and overhead variances, and provide explanations for significant deviations.
o Recommend actions to improve cost control and reduce variances.
5. Financial Reporting
o Assist in the month-end closing process by preparing cost accounting entries.
o Ensure accurate and timely reporting of cost accounting activities for financial statements.
6. Process Improvement
o Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the accuracy of cost data and streamline workflows.
o Collaborate with the operations and procurement teams to optimize cost management.
7. Audit Support
o Support internal and external audits by preparing cost-related schedules and providing necessary documentation.
8. GST & Finance Compliance Support
o Support GST preparation and filing, including reviewing GST transactions and ensuring accurate GST treatment.
o Reconcile GST accounts and investigate discrepancies prior to filing.
o Maintain supporting documentation and assist with GST queries or audits.
9. Other Responsibilities
o Perform other finance-related duties and projects as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a tech or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting methodologies, BOM management, and inventory control.
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
