Job Summary
The Engineer, Test Cell is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of engine test cell facilities. The role provides engineering support during engine testing, leads troubleshooting of test cell systems, supports maintenance and calibration activities, drives facility improvements and new capability implementation, and manages technical documentation, suppliers, and contractors to maintain high operational availability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Cell Engineering Support
- Provide engineering support for test cell systems during engine test operations.
- Collaborate closely with Test Support Engineers (TSEs), Operations, Facility Maintenance, Calibration teams, and Test Cell OEMs to troubleshoot and resolve faults encountered during engine runs.
- Investigate engine performance anomalies and identify test cell-related contributing factors.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and fault rectification independently using OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Generate technical investigation, incident, and engineering reports.
- Document defects and failure trends to support continuous improvement, reliability initiatives, and audit requirements.
- Monitor and minimize test cell downtime through effective troubleshooting and recovery actions.
- Manage inventory and replenishment of critical spare parts and long-lead-time components.
2. Maintenance & Calibration Support
- Provide technical leadership and engineering support for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Review maintenance procedures and recommend improvements to ensure facility reliability and operational readiness.
- Support calibration activities for test cell instrumentation and measurement systems.
- Review and verify calibration reports for compliance with technical requirements.
- Update calibration coefficients and curves in the Data Acquisition System (DACS).
- Perform system verification and validation following calibration updates to ensure measurement accuracy and integrity.
- Support troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition systems.
3. New Capability & Modification Projects
- Support the introduction of new equipment, processes, and test cell capabilities.
- Perform First Article evaluations and qualification activities for new systems and equipment.
- Develop and document tooling equivalency assessments.
- Prepare and update engineering and CAD drawings.
- Support engineering modifications, system upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
- Coordinate with stakeholders, OEMs, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful implementation of projects.
4. Engineering Documentation & Configuration Control
- Maintain accurate technical records, engineering reports, and defect databases.
- Compile maintenance requirements from Test Cell Manuals into Facility Maintenance Manual (FMM) worksheets.
- Update engineering drawings, procedures, manuals, and technical documents following modification activities.
- Review DACS software change requests and coordinate implementation with software engineers and OEMs.
- Manage DACS backups and data integrity requirements.
- Raise and coordinate technical queries with OEMs and external stakeholders.
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring documentation is complete and up to date.
5. Procurement & Contractor Management
- Source and evaluate suppliers and contractors for engineering services, parts, and equipment.
- Define technical specifications and scopes of work.
- Prepare and support Requests for Quotation (RFQ) and Purchase Orders (PO).
- Monitor contractor performance, schedules, and deliverables.
- Coordinate contractor activities within test cell facilities.
- Review contractor Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA), work permits, undertaking forms, and security clearance requirements.
- Ensure all contractor activities comply with company safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Education
- Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
Engineer
- Less than 5 years of relevant experience in engine test facilities, aerospace maintenance, industrial testing systems, or related environments.
Senior Engineer
- Above 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated technical leadership in test facilities, engine testing, or complex industrial systems.
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of engine test cell operations and facility systems.
- Experience with instrumentation, sensors, calibration, and data acquisition systems (DACS).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.
- Ability to interpret OEM manuals, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and reliability improvement methodologies.
- Experience with CAD software and engineering documentation control.
- Knowledge of safety management and contractor control processes.
Preferred Experience
- Aerospace MRO or engine testing experience.
- Experience in project management and facility modification projects.
- Knowledge of quality systems and audit requirements.
