Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Engineering Department Manager to lead and develop our engineering activities in the field of High Voltage (HV) electrical systems, with particular expertise in HVDC platforms and offshore HVDC transmission systems.
The successful candidate will bring extensive international and export experience, supported by a strong track record of delivering complex high-voltage projects for customers worldwide.
This is a senior technical and managerial position requiring a combination of engineering leadership, project execution experience, customer-facing capability and international business awareness.
Key Responsibilities
The Engineering Department Manager will be responsible for:
• Leading and coordinating the Engineering Department across multiple projects and disciplines.
• Managing engineering resources, priorities, workload and technical deliverables.
• Ensuring engineering activities are performed in accordance with project requirements, applicable international standards, contractual obligations, quality requirements and project schedules.
• Providing technical leadership for HV and HVDC systems, particularly for large-scale offshore and platform-based applications.
• Supervising engineering activities related to HVDC platforms, converter stations, substations and associated electrical systems.
• Reviewing and validating engineering concepts, technical specifications, calculations, drawings and design documentation.
• Supporting the definition of system architecture, equipment specifications and technical interfaces.
• Managing complex technical interfaces between electrical systems, mechanical systems, control and protection systems, platform systems and external packages.
• Coordinating engineering activities with customers, partners, suppliers, subcontractors and certification/classification bodies.
• Supporting project management teams throughout the complete project lifecycle, from tender and basic design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and final acceptance.
• Providing technical support during FAT, integration, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Identifying technical risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
• Developing engineering methods, procedures and best practices within the organization.
• Supporting recruitment, training, mentoring and professional development of engineering personnel.
HVDC and High Voltage Expertise
The candidate should demonstrate substantial experience and references in high-voltage electrical systems, ideally including several major international projects involving:
• Offshore HVDC converter platforms
• HVDC transmission systems
• Offshore substations
• Onshore converter stations
• High-voltage AC and DC systems
• HV switchgear and GIS
• Power transformers and converter transformers
• HV cables and cable interfaces
• Protection, control and monitoring systems
• Auxiliary electrical systems
• Earthing and lightning protection systems
• Electrical studies and system integration
• Interface management between HVDC technology providers, platform contractors and end customers
Experience with large offshore wind transmission projects and HVDC infrastructure in the North Sea and other international markets would be particularly valuable.
International / Export Experience
A key requirement for this position is extensive experience working in an international and export-oriented environment.
The candidate should have a proven ability to:
• Manage engineering activities for projects executed across several countries.
• Work effectively with international customers, EPC contractors, technology providers and suppliers.
• Coordinate multicultural and geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Manage technical discussions and negotiations with major international clients.
• Understand the contractual and technical requirements associated with large export projects.
• Represent the company during customer meetings, technical reviews and project negotiations.
• Travel internationally as required to support projects, customers, suppliers, fabrication yards and commissioning activities.
Management and Leadership
The Engineering Department Manager will be expected to provide strong leadership to the engineering organization and to act as a technical reference for both internal teams and customers.
Responsibilities include:
• Building and maintaining a highly competent engineering team.
• Allocating engineering resources according to project priorities.
• Monitoring engineering workload, performance and deliverables.
• Ensuring effective communication between engineering, project management, procurement, construction and commissioning teams.
• Mentoring engineers and developing technical competencies within the department.
• Promoting engineering excellence, standardization and continuous improvement.
• Supporting management in defining the company's technical strategy and engineering capabilities.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Extensive professional experience in High Voltage electrical systems.
• Significant experience with HVDC systems and/or HVDC offshore platforms.
• A strong portfolio of references on major international HV/HVDC projects.
• Proven experience managing engineering teams and multidisciplinary engineering activities.
• Strong experience working on international and export projects.
• Good understanding of international electrical standards and engineering practices, including relevant IEC requirements.
• Experience working with major utilities, transmission system operators, EPC contractors and HVDC technology providers.
• Strong knowledge of project engineering, interface management and technical risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership and customer-facing skills.
