The posting
bout SKOOL21 SKOOL21 is a Singapore-based K–12 STEM and sustainability education company working with schools and education ministries in more than 12 countries. Our learning platform pairs printed workbooks and engineering kits with a web portal and mobile apps on Google Play and the App Store. The platform carries interactive lessons, assessments, teacher dashboards and student progress tracking. We expect around 200 students at launch, growing towards 100,000.
The role Our platform was built by an external development team and is being handed over to SKOOL21. As our part-time Full Stack Developer, you will own its technical health: maintenance, troubleshooting, safe releases, database reliability, SCORM and LTI integration, and performance.
- Contract: 6 months, renewable
- Hours: about 12–16 hours a week for the first two months (handover), then about 4–6 hours a week, plus agreed incident cover
- Rate: S$60–80 per hour, depending on experience
- Work arrangement: flexible and mostly remote, with occasional meetings in Singapore
- Reports to: Managing Director
We use GitHub and AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code. You will review and test every AI-assisted change before it reaches production. Content production and day-to-day LMS administration are handled by others; you are the engineer behind them.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot the Next.js web portal, NestJS backend APIs, PostgreSQL database and Flutter mobile apps.
- Run GitHub repositories, a staging environment and automated deployments (CI/CD), with documented rollback steps.
- Manage PostgreSQL migrations, access permissions, backups and restore tests. Monitor performance, storage and hosting costs.
- Keep SCORM 1.2 packages launching, resuming and reporting correctly. Support LTI 1.3 integration and learning-analytics reports.
- Investigate mobile app, offline and progress-sync issues, and prepare releases for Google Play and the App Store.
- Apply security and dependency updates, manage access and secrets, and support incident investigations with our Data Protection Officer.
- Keep technical documentation current and send a short monthly report: incidents, work done, risks and hosting costs.
First 60 days
- Review the handover and deliver a prioritised list of risks and issues.
- Confirm SKOOL21 controls every account: code repository, hosting, database, domain, storage, and the Apple and Google developer accounts.
- Document deployment, backup, restore and incident-response procedures.
- Demonstrate a staging deployment, a database restore, and an end-to-end SCORM test on web, iOS and Android.
Requirements
- At least 3 years maintaining production web applications
- Strong TypeScript, Node.js, React or Next.js, REST APIs and PostgreSQL
- Experience with cloud or managed hosting (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, Render) and containerised deployments
- Git/GitHub, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and database backups
- Able to explain technical risks and options clearly to a non-technical director
- A careful approach to security, personal data and AI-assisted coding
Good to have
- NestJS
- Flutter, or offline-first mobile apps
- SCORM, xAPI, LTI 1.3, or LMS platforms such as Moodle
- Docker; experience in education technology
We value strong fundamentals and a methodical approach to learning an unfamiliar codebase more than expertise in every tool listed.
Working arrangement
- All work is done in SKOOL21-owned accounts and repositories, with two-factor authentication.
- The platform holds personal data of students and teachers. You will sign a confidentiality agreement, receive only the access your tasks need, and never copy production data to personal devices, test environments or AI tools.
- All code and documentation belong to SKOOL21.
How to apply Apply through MyCareersFuture with your CV, and briefly tell us:
- A production application you maintained: the technology stack and your role.
- Your experience with cloud deployments, databases, backups and production troubleshooting.
- Any experience with SCORM, LMS integrations or offline mobile apps.
- How you use AI coding tools while keeping production safe.
- Your availability and expected hourly rate.
Shortlisted candidates may be offered a paid, fixed-fee review of the codebase as a first assignment.
