GIS Site Engineer – HV Substation Projects

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced GIS Site Engineer to support the installation, testing, commissioning and site execution of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) for high-voltage substation projects in Singapore.

The successful candidate will work closely with project, engineering, commissioning, customer and subcontractor teams to ensure site activities are executed safely, according to project requirements and within schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support site execution for HV GIS installation, testing, commissioning and energisation activities.
  • Coordinate daily site activities involving GIS equipment, associated electrical systems and subcontractors.
  • Supervise and monitor GIS installation, assembly, inspection and testing activities.
  • Support testing and commissioning of GIS bays, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate interfaces between GIS equipment and transformers, protection & control systems, cables and other substation equipment.
  • Review drawings, method statements, technical documentation and site work procedures.
  • Ensure works are carried out according to approved Permit-to-Work (PTW), safety procedures and SP Group site requirements.
  • Coordinate with SP Group, contractors, subcontractors, vendors and project stakeholders on site activities.
  • Conduct site inspections and monitor installation quality and work progress.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical/site issues during installation and commissioning.
  • Prepare and maintain site reports, progress updates, inspection records and commissioning documentation.
  • Coordinate site access, work permits, toolbox meetings and other site safety requirements.
  • Support FAT/SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning and energisation activities where required.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality requirements and applicable electrical safety standards.
  • Support project handover and close-out documentation.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience working on HV substations, GIS or power transmission & distribution projects.
  • Hands-on site experience with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) installation, testing and/or commissioning.
  • Experience working on SP Group projects or substations in Singapore is highly preferred.
  • Valid SP Group Permit-to-Work / relevant SP Group safety certification or authorization is strongly preferred.
  • Good understanding of HV electrical equipment including GIS, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, transformers and protection systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics and site documentation.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and subcontractors on active project sites.
  • Strong understanding of electrical/site safety and Permit-to-Work procedures.
  • Able to work independently in a site-based environment and coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
