Position Overview

The Head of Training (HT) is responsible for the overall supervision and quality of the training function within the TRTO. The successful candidate must meet the applicable CAAS SASP requirements and be acceptable to the Authority.

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold or have held an CAAS ATPL.
  • Hold or have held a CAAS Flight Instructor Rating / Type Rating for the Airbus A320.
  • Have a minimum of 5,000 hours of total flying experience as a pilot on multi-crew aircraft, preferably with significant Airbus A320 experience.
  • Have a minimum of 3,000 hours of command experience.
  • Have a minimum of 1,000 hours of full flight simulator flight training experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in aviation training and training management.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in UPRT (Upset Prevention and Recovery Training).
  • Experience in developing, implementing and overseeing Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) programmes and assessment standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capability within a TRTO, ATO, airline or aviation training organisation.

Training & Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Ensure the TRTO complies with applicable CAAS regulations, SASP requirements and approved training standards.
  • Be responsible for the qualifications, competence, training performance and standards of instructors.
  • Ensure an adequate number of suitably qualified training personnel are available to conduct the required training activities.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality and standards of training delivered by instructors.
  • Oversee instructor competency through proficiency checks, audits, training observations and performance monitoring.
  • Establish, implement and maintain appropriate training policies, procedures and processes.
  • Ensure effective implementation of CBTA and other competency-based training methodologies, where applicable.
  • Ensure training programmes, syllabi, lesson plans and assessment processes comply with regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Identify training, safety and compliance shortfalls and ensure appropriate corrective and remedial actions are implemented.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, discipline and professionalism within the TRTO.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure the Operations Manual, Training Manual and related training documentation are current, accurate and fit for purpose.
  • Review, amend and update training manuals, procedures and supporting documentation as required.
  • Ensure training records and instructor qualification records are properly maintained and remain valid and current.
  • Support National Aviation Authority audits, inspections, approvals and regulatory liaison relating to training activities.
  • Ensure the Training Centre is suitably equipped and resourced to support approved training activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of training processes, standards, documentation and training materials.

Leadership & Management

  • Lead the TRTO training function and training personnel.
  • Participate in the management, qualification and performance management of training personnel, where required.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organisational and decision-making skills.Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience as a Head of Training, Senior Simulator Instructor or equivalent.
  • Previous experience within a CAAS-approved TRTO/ATO.
  • Experience supporting CAAS audits, regulatory inspections and training approvals.
  • Strong practical experience in UPRT and CBTA (Competency-Based Training and Assessment).
  • Experience in TRTO instructor standardisation, competency assessment and training quality assurance.
  • Experience in A320 simulator-based training and instructor standardisation.
