Position Overview
The Operational Buyer ensures that all indirect third-party spend goes through the relevant buying channels and that internal review procedures are followed, maximizing value for Lonza. The role works closely with Accounts Payable and the P2P enablement team to resolve invoice and GRIR queries, and ensures goods and services are delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and validate Purchase Requisitions for indirect products/services and CAPEX (where relevant) for several sites
- Manage the competitive bid process (per applicable policy) and/or execute RFx market interventions
- Ensure contracts and Purchase Orders are assigned to relevant preferred suppliers (if possible)
- Manage non-conformance, rejections, and returns with suppliers, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control
- Monitor and track supplier performance and raise issues with strategic buyers and/or category managers
- Promote the use of the e-catalogue (Ariba) and other approved buying channels that generate automation
- Respond to AP enquiries and cooperate with AP and the P2P enablement team to resolve invoice and GRIR queries
- Uphold data integrity principles in accordance with Lonza policies, and proactively evaluate, identify, and improve data integrity processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or a related function
- Experience with indirect spend and/or CAPEX purchasing
- Working knowledge of SAP and e-procurement tools (e.g., Ariba)
- Understanding of the purchase-to-pay (P2P) process
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across several sites
