Overview: We are seeking a commercially driven and proactive Petrochemical Trader to support the growth of petrochemical commodity business lines, including base chemicals, blending stocks etc. This role is well-suited for candidates with a strong trading foundation who are looking to expand their exposure to international trading and business development.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior originators, traders, and operators to help build and grow theseproduct lines, with the opportunity to take on greater ownership and commercial responsibility as the business evolves.
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop/analyse Petrochemical balance and the market dynamics.
- To develop market entry strategy for the Petrochemical trading business, and a road map from start to delivery.
- Establish relationship with counter-parties and trade Petrochemical in the international market, both on spot and term basis.
- Build 3rd party trading along side asset-based trading business.
- Manage risk of underlying assets using derivatives, and also gradually build spec paper book.
- P&L responsibility for the Petrochemical book.
- Support analytics team to build analytical models.
- Work together with the Operations team for handling value chain post deal.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with counterparties and help identify opportunities, structure, and execute buy/sell opportunities (spot and term).
- Work closely with the risk management team to monitor exposures.
- Collaborate with adjacent trading desks (e.g., Aromatics, Olefins, Lights) to share market insights and explore cross-product opportunities.
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least 3+ years of relevant commercial experience in the Asian/Middle East petrochemical industry, with exposure to at least one of the targeted commodity lines.
- Working knowledge of bulk chemical logistics, including handling of ISO tanks, drums, and packaged cargoes.
- Demonstrated commercial network and industry contacts that can support origination and market development.
- Genuine interest in trading, origination, and commercial execution, with a growth mindset toward future senior responsibilities.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clear, effective communication abilities.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn from experienced professionals across the organization.
- Proficient in MS Office, CTRM.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
- Fluency in English is required to manage communications and presentations with English-speaking stakeholders; proficiency in an Asian language will be an added advantage.
