Product Designer: Sorva by Heatsig Lamp Series (Remote, 3-Month Contract) Open to applicants worldwide | 2-4 years' experience, strong students and recent graduates welcome | Min. 20 hrs/week | SGD $600-800/month
Design a lamp series held to the highest standard of craft, and see it built.
Illuminating Asia is a design-led lighting company with patented technology and award-winning design behind it. Sorva by Heatsig is our residential lamp line. We admire the design standards of brands like Apple, Dyson, and Mercedes, and we want Sorva to be held to that level of craft: restrained form, precise materials, and a finish that feels premium the moment you pick it up.
This is a chance to take a real product from good to exceptional and create the series that follows, with direct access to the founder and a clear brief. If you're an early-career designer who wants a standout project in your portfolio, this role is built for you.
What you'll do
- Refine the current Sorva by Heatsig lamp: form, proportions, materials, finish, and user experience
- Design a new series of Sorva lamps with a consistent design language, from sketches to 3D models to prototypes
- Choose materials, finishes, and light sources that deliver a premium residential look
- Work with our engineers so designs can be made well and at sensible cost
- Prepare documentation for prototyping and manufacturing
- Present your thinking directly to our founder and leadership team
Who we're looking for
- 2-4 years' experience in product or industrial design, or a strong student or recent graduate with an outstanding portfolio
- A portfolio that shows real attention to form, proportion, and finish. Shipped products are great, but university projects, competition entries, and personal concept work count too.
- Proficiency in CAD/3D tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar)
- A good understanding of how lamps are made, or the curiosity to learn fast (metal, glass, polycarbonate, LED integration)
- A high design standard, with the judgment to work within cost and manufacturing limits
- Clear communication, so you can explain why you made a design decision
- Self-motivation and comfort working independently and remotely
Bonus points
- Design awards or competition recognition
- Interest in smart-home or sensor-integrated products
- Lighting, furniture, or consumer electronics projects
The details
- Remote, anyone worldwide welcome to apply
- 3-month contract for service, minimum 20 hours/week
- Flexible hours, with a regular check-in with our Singapore team at a time that suits your time zone
- Compensation: SGD $600-800/month, depending on experience
How to apply Email [email protected] with:
- Your CV
- Your portfolio, with visuals of your best work (shipped, prototyped, or academic)
- A short answer to this question: which product do you consider the best-designed object in your home, and what makes it so good?
