Boys' Town is a non-profit social service agency in Singapore dedicated to supporting children and youth in need. Founded in 1948 by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Boys' Town began as a residential home for boys affected by the war and has since expanded to provide a continuum of services for children and youth in need.
Today, Boys' Town serves both boys and girls, from infants to young adults, many from disadvantaged or disengaged families who have experienced challenges such as neglect, abandonment, or abuse. Boys' Town provides holistic and integrated services including residential care, fostering services, respite care, youth outreach, adventure-based therapy, and clinical intervention.
As an organisation, Boys' Town is committed to meaningful social impact and professional practice. Staff work within multi-disciplinary teams of trained professionals, united by a shared purpose of making a positive impact in the lives of children and youth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. FUNCTIONAL
Assist in various adventure-based programs, workshops and related services, playing a variety of roles to clients which includes instructor, facilitator, mentor, etc.
Facilitate various adventure-based programs, workshops and related services for a wide range of clients.
Work in collaboration and support with other BTAC instructional staff team to ensure smooth running of programme, providing technical support in a range of adventure-based activities which require additional instructional staff, as well as providing any necessary resource support for the programme.
Conduct programme recee complete with presentation and including submission of recee and associated forms.
Conduct risk assessment for events and programmes.
To carry out some marketing of the BTAC programmes when called upon or when assigned projects of such nature.
To be involved in promoting the overall branding and services of BTAC by being involved in both internal and external events when called upon.
Ensure equipment and facility functionality and maintenance for the purpose of providing safety for clients.
Work evenings and weekends when required to resource the programme and meet demands of the job.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the work of BTAC by maintaining professionalism in the area of staff, facilitation, programme development and resources utilization.
Engage in on-going professional development to increase technical knowledge and soft skills in the area of adventure learning and supporting client behaviour.
B. ORGANIZATIONAL
To participate actively in all fundraising activities as well as any other commitments that Boys' Town undertakes.
To work in close collaboration with other staff, department and components of Boys' Town.
The Executive Director and or his/her representative may assign you any other duties that are within reason for the benefit of the clients and/or Boys' Town.
QUALIFICATIONS
Average Qualifications & years of relevant experience
- Minimum Diploma holder with good communications skills (spoken and written).
- Have a passion for active sports or outdoor adventure.
- Preferably with a SNCS level 1/ level 2 or higher, SNAS level 1/ level 2 or higher, SCF 1-star/2-star award or higher, SSI Pool Freediving (equivalent and/or higher) with a valid first aid certification.
- Has the passion to work with children and youth; including at risk children and youths.
- Preferably with facilitation experience in ice breakers, team building/bonding games and problem-based activities.
- Expected to run activities such as running, hiking, swimming.
- Able to perform physical task such as abseiling, natural rock climbing and sport climbing.
- The job may require you to lead local and overseas expeditions which may involve trekking, climbing or paddling for long distances.
