We are looking for a Research Engineer / Research Associate to support systems integration and prototyping activities in air traffic management (ATM), with a focus on the development, implementation, and integration of ATM systems and decision-support tools. The role will involve developing and integrating software components, research algorithms, data interfaces, and simulation platforms into functional prototypes, as well as supporting system testing, verification, and validation in realistic ATM environments, contributing to the advancement of research and innovation at Nanyang Technological University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support research and development activities related to systems integration and prototyping for air traffic management studies and applications.
- Develop, implement, and integrate software components, research algorithms, data interfaces, and decision-support tools into functional ATM system prototypes.
- Support the development and implementation of system architectures, interfaces, and integration frameworks to enable interoperability between ATM research components and simulation platforms.
- Work collaboratively with researchers and engineers to translate research concepts and algorithms into integrated prototype solutions for current and future ATM concepts.
- Conduct system integration, testing, verification, troubleshooting, and validation to assess the functionality, performance, reliability, and interoperability of developed prototypes.
- Support the integration and processing of operational and simulated data sources, external systems, and communication interfaces required for ATM research and experimentation.
- Support the setup, operation, maintenance, and demonstration of integrated research prototypes and simulation environments.
- Prepare technical reports, system documentation, research outputs, and project deliverables, and participate in project meetings and reviews.
- Contribute to research publications, technical documentation, prototype demonstrations, and other project-related activities as required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Air Traffic Management, Transport, or other related fields.
- Relevant research, engineering, or development experience in systems integration, software development, systems engineering, prototyping, or related technical roles would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with systems integration and prototyping, including software and data interfaces, interoperability, and integration of multiple software or research components into functional systems.
- Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, system documentation, and research outputs.
- Proficiency in programming and software development using languages such as Python, C++, Java, or similar languages, with experience in software integration, API development, data processing, or simulation platforms.
- Familiarity with system testing, debugging, verification and validation, software version control, and collaborative software development practices would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of air traffic management systems, aviation operations, simulation environments, or related decision-support systems would be advantageous.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement technical solutions and troubleshoot system integration issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary research and engineering teams, complete assigned tasks within defined timelines, and demonstrate good organisational and time management skills.
