The posting
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is the world’s first Design·AI university. With Design·AI, artificial intelligence is treated as a partner and a member of the team – not just a tool. As a result of this unique SUTD treatment, AI and humans brainstorm, spar and prototype together, resulting in solutions that are elevated several-fold. This human-AI team concept has been made possible because of SUTD’s unique cohort-based interdisciplinary pedagogy – which has been in place since the University’s formation in 2009.
As a trailblazer in the field of design and technology education and research, SUTD has been pioneering innovative programmes and initiatives since our inception – including launching the world’s first Design and AI degree in 2020 – well before AI was even a buzzword. The success of that pioneering degree has set the stage for a new growth strategy called SUTD Leap, which was launched in March 2024. Here, SUTD aims to redesign higher education with an even greater focus on design and AI, whilst nurturing the next generation of human-centric design x tech innovators and innovator leaders.
Job Description
The Research Fellow will develop game-theoretic models of channel contention among WiFi stations serving generative AI inference traffic, and will design and analyse access and resource-allocation mechanisms that remain efficient when stations behave strategically. The role covers equilibrium characterization, efficiency-loss analysis, and the extension of static formulations to dynamic settings reflecting time-varying inference workloads. The Research Fellow will cross-check analytical predictions against measurements from the project testbed together with the systems members of the team, lead the preparation of first-author manuscripts for leading IEEE and ACM journals and conferences, and contribute to technical reports, milestone deliverables, and technical discussions with the industry partner.
Job Requirement
- The candidate should be specialised in operations management, economics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, with game theory as the methodological core.
- Essential skills include non-cooperative and Stackelberg game modelling, mechanism and contract design, equilibrium analysis, and constrained optimisation, together with the ability to formulate and solve analytical models independently and write them up to publication standard.
- Proficiency in Matlab or Python for numerical evaluation is required, and a record of first-author publications in leading peer-reviewed journals is expected.
- Familiarity with wireless channel access principles such as CSMA/CA is an advantage, though candidates able to acquire this within the first months of appointment will also be considered.
