The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability. For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/ase.
The Wetland Carbon Lab at NTU’s Asian School of the Environment (ASE) focuses on understanding the role of wetlands and aquatic ecosystems, including mangroves peatlands, and streams, as natural climate solutions. The lab integrates field-based experiments, high-frequency sensor networks, stable isotope approaches, and modelling to study water, carbon, nitrogen, and energy fluxes and greenhouse gas emissions across ecosystems and watersheds.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to lead eddy covariance data analysis for our greenhouse gas flux research in Southeast Asian wetlands. The position supports NTU’s mission to advance solution-oriented environmental research and contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for regular quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of eddy covariance and supporting meteorological data, and for producing monthly data reports.
- Improve, standardize, and automate EC pre- and post-processing workflows (e.g. flux calculation, filtering, gap-filling, flux partitioning, uncertainty estimation), ensuring rigorous documentation and reproducibility.
- Prepare and contribute to peer-reviewed publications, research proposals, technical reports, and internal technical notes, and present findings at scientific meetings.
- Contribute to the development of a Southeast Asian flux tower network, including data harmonization and partner engagement.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Micrometeorology, Biogeochemistry, Ecology, or a closely related field
- Strong experience in eddy covariance measurements of greenhouse gas (CO2, CH4) and energy fluxes.
- In-depth knowledge of eddy covariance theory and instrumentation, and of standard processing software.
- Analytical and modelling skills with R or Python; experience building automated, reproducible data pipelines.
- Excellent scientific communication and interpersonal skills
- Proactive, independent, and team-oriented
ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit based on merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
