Job Summary
Responsible for preparing and updating structural and rebar fabrication drawings, Bar Bending Schedules (BBS), shop drawings, and related technical documentation based on customer drawings, specifications, and production requirements. The role provides drafting and technical support to the Chief Engineer, Production, and QA/QC teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, detail, revise, and update structural, rebar fabrication, and shop drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare and check Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) based on approved drawings and project requirements.
- Interpret structural drawings and convert design information into accurate fabrication drawings and production details.
- Verify rebar dimensions, diameter, spacing, lap lengths, couplers, bending details, quantities, and other fabrication requirements.
- Maintain proper drawing revisions, document control, and version records.
- Ensure Production receives accurate and updated drawings and BBS for fabrication.
- Assist the Chief Engineer in reviewing drawing discrepancies and preparing technical clarifications.
- Coordinate with Production and QA/QC on drawing, BBS, dimensional, and fabrication-related technical matters.
- Conduct production-floor verification when required to confirm fabrication against approved drawings and BBS.
- Assist in checking steel quantities and improving cutting and material utilisation to reduce wastage.
- Prepare and maintain engineering records, technical documents, standard drawings, and drafting templates.
- Perform other structural drafting and engineering support duties assigned by the Chief Engineer within the scope of the position.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Drafting, or a related discipline. Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in structural/rebar detailing, BBS preparation, and rebar fabrication.
- Relevant experience in structural drafting, rebar detailing, BBS, or rebar fabrication.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and preparation of technical/shop drawings.
- Able to read and interpret structural and construction drawings.
- Good knowledge of rebar detailing, dimensions, bending requirements, and BBS preparation.
- Good attention to detail and ability to coordinate technical information accurately.
- Able to work closely with Engineering, Production, and QA/QC teams.
Reporting & Responsibility
The Structural Engineering Drafter reports directly to the Chief Engineer and is primarily responsible for structural drafting, rebar detailing, BBS preparation, drawing control, and related engineering technical support.
The Chief Engineer retains final engineering approval, major design changes, and significant technical decisions. The Production Management Team retains authority over production manpower, shift scheduling, production output, and daily workforce management.
