Senior Forward Deployed Engineer — AI and Automation

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with tenant teams to discover business needs, design solutions and deliver AI-driven automation.

You will own delivery from workflow discovery and requirements gathering through development, deployment and handover. The role combines business process analysis with backend engineering, cloud infrastructure and AI agent development.

Key Responsibilities

Business Discovery and Process Design

  • Conduct discovery sessions with stakeholders to identify operational challenges, manual processes and automation opportunities.
  • Document current and proposed workflows using BPMN, swim-lane diagrams, data flow diagrams or equivalent methods.
  • Translate business needs into solution blueprints and technical specifications for stakeholder approval.

AI Agents and Workflow Automation

  • Design agentic workflows covering triggers, decision logic, tool integrations, human approval checkpoints and failure handling.
  • Build AI solutions using models hosted within the approved security boundary, keeping data and inference within the classified environment.
  • Define where automation is appropriate and where human judgement must remain in control.

Development and Deployment

  • Write maintainable, testable production code using Python or another backend language.
  • Develop REST API integrations, event-driven workflows and automation components.
  • Provision, configure and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure and containerised workloads.
  • Apply version control, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and security controls throughout delivery.
  • Build solutions that operate within restricted or air-gapped environments.

Stakeholder Engagement and Handover

  • Present designs and explain technical trade-offs to business owners and technical teams.
  • Manage assigned workstreams from discovery through implementation and deployment.
  • Prepare documentation and conduct handovers so tenant teams can operate and extend solutions independently.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language; Python preferred.
  • Hands-on cloud infrastructure knowledge covering compute, networking and IAM.
  • Working knowledge of containerisation and orchestration in enterprise environments.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Practical understanding of LLM application development and AI workflow controls.
  • Ability to independently conduct requirements gathering and process discovery with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience documenting as-is and to-be processes and translating them into technical designs.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting and delivery ownership.
