At bp, we provide an excellent working environment and employee benefits such as an open and inclusive culture, a great work-life balance, tremendous learning and development opportunities to craft your career path, life and health insurance, medical care package and many others.

About bp

Our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to support a changing world. We work at the intersection of global energy systems, applying insight, collaboration and digital innovation to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes.

This role desires individuals who are curious, collaborative and motivated to help improve performance while contributing to long-term value.

About the Role

The movement of hydrocarbons using third-party vessels plays a key role in our operations and comes with environmental, commercial and operational considerations.

As part of the Shipping Optimization team, this role focuses on improving performance across bp’s time-chartered fleet in the East region. This role will work closely with ship owners and technical managers to translate vessel performance data into clear commercial outcomes.

As a senior member of the team, you will lead performance management across key partner relationships, identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and emissions performance, and support better commercial decision-making.

What You Will Do

Manage Time Charter Partnerships

  • Act as a primary contact for key time charter relationships after contract award
  • Partner with ship owners and technical managers to review performance trends
  • Set clear expectations across safety, assurance, efficiency and commercial outcomes
  • Encourage adoption of operational and technical improvements supported by data

2. Drive Commercial Performance

  • Translate vessel performance into measurable business outcomes (e.g. fuel efficiency, reliability, emissions performance)
  • Provide clear performance insights to senior partners
  • Connect operational performance with financial impact and value delivery
  • Support resolution of sophisticated underperformance cases

3. Support Risk Awareness

  • Use assurance data and insights to highlight marine risk across the portfolio
  • Present risks in a clear and practical way to support decision-making
  • Collaborate with assurance and vetting teams while maintaining a commercial focus

4. Build and Improve Performance Frameworks

  • Develop and enhance performance frameworks across key areas such as:
  • Commercial performance
  • Operational effectiveness
  • Energy efficiency and emissions
  • Claims and compliance
  • Establish benchmarks and track performance using dashboards and reporting tools

5. Lead Performance Improvement Initiatives

  • Identify underperformance early and lead improvement plans
  • Work with partners to implement targeted operational improvements
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring and follow-up to deliver sustained results

6. Contribute Across the Vessel Lifecycle

  • Provide input into vessel selection, deployment and chartering decisions
  • Bring performance and lifecycle insights into commercial discussions
  • Highlight key contractual considerations and risks before agreements are finalised

7. Build External Relationships

  • Develop strong working relationships with ship owners, technical managers and industry peers
  • Share market insights and standard methodologies within the team

8. Enable Data-Driven Decisions

  • Work with digital teams to improve data visibility and reporting
  • Use analytics to generate actionable insights
  • Support consistent and clear performance reporting across partners

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in maritime operations, particularly with time charter vessels and third-party fleet management
  • Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and external partners
  • Strong understanding of how operational performance impacts commercial outcomes
  • Experience developing or managing performance frameworks
  • Knowledge of charter party structures and vessel performance drivers (e.g. fuel efficiency, voyage optimisation)
  • Familiarity with industry frameworks such as SIRE or TMSA

How You Will Work

  • Communicate clearly and make complex topics easy to understand
  • Take a balanced view of technical detail and commercial impact
  • Build strong, respectful relationships while being comfortable challenging performance where needed
  • Focus on outcomes and continuous improvement

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
