The posting

NLCS (Singapore) believes that each employee makes a significant contribution to our success and that contributions should not be limited by the assigned responsibilities. Therefore, this position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications, and job scope, but not limit the employee, nor NLCS (Singapore), to only the work identified. It is the expectation of the School that each employee will offer his/her services wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of our organisation. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The School expects all teaching staff, non‐teaching staff and volunteers to share and uphold this commitment.

Job Overview

NLCS (Singapore) is seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior School Social and Emotional Guidance Counsellor to join the school from August 2027. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, resilience, and personal development within a high-achieving and caring school environment.

The Senior School Social and Emotional Guidance Counsellors provide high-quality, student-centred social, emotional and wellbeing support to students in Senior School. Working as part of the wider counselling and pastoral team, the role provides additional capacity to respond to the developmental, emotional and social needs of students during the important transition into and through early adolescence.

The Senior School Social and Emotional Guidance Counsellors will provide evidence-informed counselling, early intervention, and preventative support, working in close collaboration with pastoral leaders, the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) team, teaching staff, families, and external specialists. They will also partner with the broader Social and Educational Guidance Counselling team to manage student transitions and maintain balanced caseloads, accommodating cross-grade case reassignments when necessary (e.g., in instances of high-risk imbalances or conflicts of interest).

The role contributes to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment in which students are able to develop emotional awareness, resilience, positive relationships and the skills to navigate challenges successfully.

The Senior School Social and Emotional Guidance Counsellors operate within the school's safeguarding, confidentiality, referral and escalation procedures and policies and will clearly recognise the boundaries between school-based counselling, safeguarding and external clinical provision.

The NLCS Ethos

The ethos of NLCS (Singapore) mirrors that of NLCS (UK): an academically ambitious education that nurtures intellectual curiosity, independence of thought, and a deep love of learning. Students are encouraged to explore ideas beyond the syllabus, developing confidence, creativity, and resilience.

Pastoral care is central to our philosophy - we aim to know every child as an individual and to foster a culture of kindness, respect, and mutual support. Our co-curricular programme, encompassing Sport, Music, Drama, and a wide range of clubs and societies, provides opportunities for students to discover new passions and excel beyond the classroom.

The Curriculum

Our curriculum reflects the academic ambition of NLCS (UK). While schemes of work are adapted to our Singaporean and international context, they are underpinned by the same spirit of scholarship and intellectual stretch.

Alongside the taught curriculum, students benefit from a wide variety of enrichment opportunities designed to develop their character, leadership, and confidence.

Safeguarding Abide by the School safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes

Have regard for, and promote, the need to safeguard students’ wellbeing, maintaining awareness of cultural differences and related matters when dealing with students.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. This post is subject to satisfactory background and police checks. Full details are available in the School's Recruitment, Selection & Disclosure Policy and Procedure and the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
