The posting
Every gigabyte Micron ship is trusted to hold someone's data for years, whether in a phone, a car, a data center or an AI cluster. The NAND Product Reliability Architecture (NRA) team defines how we prove that trust before a product is released.
As a Staff Engineer in NAND Product Reliability Architecture team, you will own the reliability architecture for Micron's newest NAND products end-to-end: interpreting reliability requirements, architecting qualification and stress strategies, developing and integrating reliability algorithms and system features, and optimizing coverage, sampling and test time so that we qualify faster without compromising quality.
This is a high-leverage, high-visibility role. Your architecture decisions directly influence qualification cycle time, product time to market and the reliability our customers experience in the field. In a market where being first to qualify is a competitive advantage, speed is a core expectation. You will work closely with Technology Development, System Architecture, Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality, and you will be expected to influence across these teams.
Main Responsibilities:
- Comprehend NAND reliability specifications (internal, JEDEC, and customer-specific) to ensure complete coverage in the qualification plan.
- Architect end-to-end reliability qualification strategies for new products and technology generations, including stress conditions, coverage models, sampling plans, readout points and acceptance criteria.
- Benchmark specifications across product generations and application segments, identify gaps or unintended scope changes, and drive alignment with System and Quality teams.
- Optimize qualification sampling and flow coverage to reduce cost and test time while preserving statistical confidence and customer protection.
- Design and release reliability test flows across wafer-level and component-level platforms, ensuring readiness for new product and technology development programs.
- Own and maintain clear reliability documentation and governance so test methods, stress conditions and supporting capabilities remain accurate, auditable and current.
- Identify and validate test-time reduction opportunities, quantify their value and demonstrate them with data before production deployment.
- Partner with execution and operations teams to ensure clean implementation and on-time, or accelerated, qualification release.
- Define the architecture and integration strategy for new reliability algorithms, system features and product capabilities.
- Drive system feature development in partnership with System Architecture, Design and Firmware teams by translating system-level requirements into component-level capability, defining validation criteria and confirming feature effectiveness before qualification use.
- Develop, validate and deploy reliability-focused test capabilities; support emulation, bench checkout, debugging and issue resolution with Design and Test Engineering teams.
Other Responsibilities:
- Own technical execution from concept through validation, product introduction and sustaining support.
- Lead investigation of reliability failures and qualification gating issues using structured problem solving, electrical characterization and physical failure analysis.
- Connect product-level failure signatures to device, process, circuit, firmware or system behavior and translate findings into actionable mitigations.
- Provide data-backed reliability positions for product changes, process changes, manufacturing excursions and customer-specific requirements.
- Support customer inquiries and communicate technical findings, risk assessments and recommendations clearly to engineering and leadership stakeholders.
- Analyze large, high-dimensional reliability datasets, including threshold-voltage movement, error-rate trends, charge loss, read-disturb behavior and ECC margin, and convert the results into decision-ready recommendations.
- Build and deploy automation and agentic AI workflows that reduce manual effort in flow generation, documentation, sampling design, data analysis and technical reporting.
- Champion responsible, standards-compliant use of AI tools and share reusable solutions across the reliability organization.
- Act as the recognized technical owner for an assigned product or reliability domain and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Mentor engineers, strengthen technical depth and establish sustainable backup ownership for critical reliability workflows.
- Represent Product Reliability in architecture reviews, qualification reviews, technical working groups and leadership updates.
- Drive innovation through new methodologies, technical publications, invention disclosures and continuous improvement of next-generation reliability capability.
AI Responsibilities
- Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within the scope of the role.
Minimum Required Qualifications/Experience
- PhD, or Master’s degree with ≥3 years, or Bachelor’s degree with ≥5 years of relevant experience in Microelectronics, Materials Science, Physics, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in semiconductor reliability, product engineering, test, design, validation, or system media architecture domain.
- Solid understanding of non-volatile memory architecture and operation, including program, erase and read algorithms, threshold-voltage distributions, page and block structure and error-management concepts.
- Hands-on experience in semiconductor reliability, product engineering, test, design, validation, firmware, system development or a closely related domain.
- Experience in system feature development, including defining, developing, checking out and validating reliability-impacting features or algorithms, with an understanding of how controller, firmware and system-level behavior translate into component-level requirements.
- Demonstrated architecture development capability, including strategy definition, coverage modeling, sampling design and trade-off analysis across quality, risk, cost and cycle time.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor device physics, circuits, process technology and reliability failure mechanisms such as charge loss or gain, read disturb, retention, cycling degradation and oxide breakdown.
- Strong statistical and data-analysis capability, with hands-on proficiency in Python, JMP, Tableau or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with applicable industry reliability standards and qualification sampling or confidence methodologies.
- Demonstrated bias for speed, including a track record of accelerating schedules, pulling in milestones or simplifying processes without compromising quality, and comfort making sound decisions with incomplete data.
- Excellent problem-solving, project-management and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical positions clearly to both engineers and executives.
Highly Desirable/Preferred skills or experience
- Direct experience with NAND component or wafer-level reliability testing, qualification-flow development or electrical failure analysis.
- Experience owning a system feature or architecture from concept through production release and post-release sustaining.

- Exposure to SSD, mobile, automotive or AI/data-center qualification requirements and customer reliability expectations.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D or FMEA.
- Demonstrated use of machine learning, automation, large language models or agentic AI to improve engineering productivity.
- Track record of innovation through patents, invention disclosures, technical publications or significant methodology improvements.
