Tax Manager – Shipowner
Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager with a strong background in the ship owning and maritime industry to manage the company’s tax affairs across its vessel-owning entities, international operations and related corporate structures. The role will oversee tax compliance, planning, reporting and advisory matters while ensuring the business remains compliant with applicable local and international tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the tax affairs of the shipowner, including vessel-owning companies, subsidiaries and international entities.
- Oversee corporate income tax, GST/VAT, withholding tax and other relevant tax compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide tax advice on vessel acquisitions, disposals, newbuilds, ship financing, chartering arrangements and corporate restructuring.
- Review and manage the tax implications of shipping-related transactions, including sale and purchase, bareboat charters, time charters and commercial arrangements.
- Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Legal and Operations teams on tax-related matters and business decisions.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors and relevant tax authorities.
- Monitor changes in international shipping tax regulations, tax treaties, transfer pricing requirements and other regulations affecting the ship owning business.
- Support tax planning initiatives to optimize the group’s tax position while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Oversee transfer pricing documentation and intercompany transactions between vessel-owning and related entities.
- Identify and manage potential tax risks, audits, disputes and tax exposures across the group.
- Prepare and review tax provisions, forecasts and reporting for management and financial reporting purposes.
- Provide guidance to senior management on tax risks and opportunities associated with the company’s fleet, investments and international operations.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related discipline.
- Must have either Maritime Sector Incentive – Approved International Shipping (MSI-AIS) or Global Trader Programme (GTP) experience in setup, implementation & audit
- Prior experience with Business Central is an advantage
- Full set accounting experience preferably from Shipping industry
