Department: Technical / Asset Management Position: Technical Manager / Senior Technical Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded aviation technical professional to join our aircraft leasing team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and negotiating the technical aspects of aircraft lease agreements, supporting aircraft transactions, and developing practical, commercially balanced solutions that align the interests of the lessor and airline operators.

This position requires a strong understanding of aircraft maintenance, engineering, airline operations, and the technical provisions of aircraft leasing agreements. The individual should be capable of translating complex technical requirements into practical contractual solutions, while understanding their financial and operational implications for both the lessor and lessee.

Beyond traditional technical asset management responsibilities, the role will actively contribute to improving lease structures, optimizing technical requirements, reducing operational inefficiencies, and enhancing the overall competitiveness and effectiveness of the company's leasing platform.

Key Responsibilities

1.Technical Lease Negotiation and Contract Development

  • Lead and support negotiations of technical provisions in aircraft lease agreements with airlines, lessors, and other counterparties.
  • Review, evaluate, and negotiate technical lease terms, including maintenance obligations, maintenance reserves, maintenance adjustment mechanisms, return conditions, aircraft configuration, airworthiness requirements, and records requirements.
  • Identify technical provisions that may create unnecessary operational complexity, additional costs, or practical challenges for airlines.
  • Develop commercially balanced alternatives that protect the lessor's asset value while remaining realistic and achievable for airline operators.
  • Work closely with the Commercial, Legal, and Asset Management teams to ensure technical requirements are appropriately reflected in lease documentation.
  • Continuously review and improve standard lease technical clauses, templates, and contractual structures based on market practices, operational experience, and lessons learned from previous transactions.

2. Airline Operational Understanding and Technical Optimization

  • Assess the practical implications of technical lease requirements on airlines' day-to-day maintenance and operational activities.
  • Understand how contractual obligations affect aircraft utilization, maintenance planning, fleet management, aircraft availability, and airline operating costs.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify technical requirements, eliminate unnecessary restrictions, and improve operational flexibility without compromising asset protection.
  • Propose innovative and commercially viable solutions to technical or contractual challenges encountered during lease negotiations and throughout the lease term.
  • Balance contractual protections with real-world airline maintenance practices, regulatory requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Support the development of lease structures that are efficient, practical, and attractive to airline customers.

3. Aircraft Asset Management and Technical Oversight

  • Monitor the technical condition, maintenance status, and contractual compliance of aircraft within the leased portfolio.
  • Review aircraft maintenance programs, utilization, maintenance forecasts, and major maintenance events to assess their implications for asset value and lease obligations.
  • Evaluate aircraft technical records, airworthiness documentation, modification status, and maintenance history.
  • Identify potential technical risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Provide technical assessments to support aircraft acquisitions, disposals, lease extensions, transitions, and remarketing activities.
  • Coordinate with airlines, maintenance organizations, consultants, and other stakeholders on technical matters.

4. Aircraft Delivery, Redelivery and Transition Management

  • Support and oversee aircraft delivery, redelivery, and transition activities.
  • Review and negotiate aircraft delivery and return conditions to ensure they are commercially appropriate, technically sound, and operationally achievable.
  • Assess technical deviations, outstanding maintenance requirements, records discrepancies, and aircraft condition issues.
  • Develop practical solutions to minimize transition costs, aircraft downtime, and potential disputes.
  • Support technical acceptance, inspections, and documentation reviews as required.
  • Apply lessons learned from aircraft transitions to improve future lease agreements and asset management practices.

5.Commercial and Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide technical expertise to the Commercial, Legal, Finance, and Asset Management teams during lease negotiations and transaction execution.
  • Evaluate the financial and commercial implications of technical decisions, including maintenance exposure, compensation mechanisms, and aircraft return conditions.
  • Support the assessment of technical risks associated with prospective airline customers, aircraft types, and lease structures.
  • Participate in discussions with airline engineering, maintenance, fleet planning, and commercial teams to resolve technical and contractual matters.
  • Contribute to internal policies, technical standards, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and consistency across the leasing portfolio.

Qualifications and Experience

EssentialRequirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent relevant aviation experience will also be considered.
  • Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in aircraft leasing, airline engineering, technical asset management, aircraft maintenance, or aircraft transitions.
  • Strong understanding of commercial aircraft maintenance requirements, maintenance planning, airworthiness regulations, and airline operational practices.
  • Experience reviewing, interpreting, or negotiating technical provisions in aircraft lease agreements.
  • Good understanding of aircraft delivery and redelivery conditions, maintenance reserves, maintenance status, and technical records requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate technical matters from both operational and commercial perspectives.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with commercial, legal, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with an aircraft leasing company, airline engineering department, aircraft asset management organization, or aviation technical consultancy.
  • Direct experience in aircraft lease negotiations, aircraft transitions, or technical contract management.
  • Practical experience in airline maintenance planning, fleet technical management, or engineering operations.
  • Familiarity with Airbus and/or Boeing commercial aircraft platforms.
  • Understanding of aircraft and engine maintenance economics, maintenance reserves, end-of-lease compensation, and asset value considerations.
  • Experience working with international airlines, MRO providers, and aviation regulatory authorities.

Key Competencies

  • Technical and Commercial Judgment: Ability to balance asset protection, commercial objectives, and practical airline operational requirements.
  • Negotiation Skills: Confidence in engaging with airline technical teams and counterparties to reach commercially sensible agreements.
  • Operational Mindset: Strong appreciation of how contractual requirements translate into real-world maintenance activities, operational limitations, and costs.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to challenge conventional approaches and develop practical, efficient solutions to complex technical matters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactive approach to improving lease documentation, technical policies, and asset management processes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate effectively across technical, commercial, and legal functions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
