Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to assume full technical responsibility for a fleet of 4 landing craft operating throughout the Far East.
The successful candidate will ensure the vessels remain safe, compliant, reliable and cost-efficient. Acting as the principal technical contact between the vessels and shore management, the Superintendent will oversee maintenance, repairs, surveys, dry-dockings, budgets and technical projects across the region.
This is a hands-on position requiring frequent vessel and shipyard attendance, including extended regional travel when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full technical management and daily support for 4 landing craft operating across the Far East.
- Ensure vessels comply with class, flag, statutory, IMO and company Safety Management System requirements.
- Monitor the condition and performance of hull, machinery, propulsion, electrical and auxiliary systems.
- Oversee the maintenance of ramps, deck machinery, hydraulic systems and other equipment specific to landing-craft operations.
- Plan and manage routine maintenance, major repairs, dry-dockings, surveys, modifications and conversion projects.
- Prepare repair specifications, budgets, work scopes, tender documents and project reports.
- Attend vessels, shipyards and ports throughout the region to supervise repairs, inspections and technical projects.
- Conduct vessel-condition inspections and prepare reports with clear recommendations and follow-up actions.
- Monitor Planned Maintenance System performance, recurring defects and critical-equipment reliability.
- Review vessel requisitions and ensure the timely supply of spare parts, stores and technical services.
- Prepare and manage vessel operating and capital budgets and explain expenditure variances.
- Evaluate shipyards, repair contractors, equipment manufacturers and technical service providers.
- Coordinate with marine operations, HSEQ, crewing, procurement, class and flag authorities.
- Support the technical transition or conversion of former naval craft for commercial operations.
- Participate in technical incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective-action follow-up.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching and training to Chief Engineers and shipboard engineering teams.
- Support the recruitment, assessment and promotion of senior engineering officers.
- Maintain effective communication between vessels, regional stakeholders and shore management.
- Provide technical assistance outside normal working hours during vessel emergencies or critical operations.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline.
- Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency Class 1 or Class 2, or an equivalent internationally recognised STCW qualification.
- At least 8 years of marine-engineering experience, including seagoing service as a licensed engineering officer.
- Previous shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent or Assistant Technical Superintendent.
- Experience with landing craft, naval vessels, RoRo vessels, offshore vessels, workboats or similar vessel types would be highly advantageous.
- Proven experience managing dry-dockings, major repairs and technical projects.
- Strong understanding of propulsion machinery, hydraulic ramps, deck equipment and vessel-support systems.
- Good knowledge of class, flag, statutory, ISM and applicable IMO requirements.
- Experience managing vessel budgets, procurement and operating expenditure.
- Strong technical problem-solving, leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and planned-maintenance or fleet-management systems.
- Willing and able to travel frequently throughout the Far East, including extended shipyard or vessel assignments.
