Riadi, organizuje, koordinuje a kontroluje činnosť zamestnancov na úseku ošetrovateľstva.Zodpovedá za odbornú úroveň, kvalitu, bezpečnosť a efektívnosť poskytovanej ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti.Metodicky usmerňuje vedenie ošetrovateľskej dokumentácie a dodržiavanie ošetrovateľských štandardov a pracovných postupov.Pripravuje, zavádza, vyhodnocuje a aktualizuje interné predpisy a štandardy v oblasti ošetrovateľstva.Zabezpečuje personálne, organizačné a materiálno-technické podmienky na poskytovanie ošetrovateľskej starostlivosti.Podieľa sa na výbere, hodnotení, motivovaní, stabilizácii a odbornom rozvoji zamestnancov ošetrovateľského úseku.Kontroluje dodržiavanie právnych predpisov, hygienicko-epidemiologického režimu a vnútroorganizačných noriem.Spolupracuje s vedením ústavu, primármi, lekármi, vedúcimi sestrami a ostatnými organizačnými útvarmi.Sleduje spokojnosť pacientov a ich zákonných zástupcov a navrhuje nápravné a preventívne opatrenia.Rieši odborné, personálne, organizačné, mimoriadne a krízové situácie na úseku ošetrovateľstva.Zodpovedá za efektívne využívanie ľudských, materiálnych a finančných zdrojov zvereného úseku.
