The posting

Who We Are:

At NaturalMotion, we make games that wow people. We innovate to create previously impossible experiences that would not exist without us. We take pride in making titles that reach a large audience and creating communities that last. Our commitment to excellence has earned us recognition as one of the UK's Best Places to Work in games for eight consecutive years by gamesindustry.biz, and we're proud to be part of the Zynga and Take-Two Interactive family.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Server & Infrastructure Engineer to join our server engineering team. In this role, you will work on core backend systems and backend services, contributing directly to live services and build systems with minimal supervision. You will help manage and expand our infrastructure, automated CI/CD pipelines, and development tools while collaborating closely with technical leads to build reliable, high-performing server environments. You will have a passion for large-scale high-availability systems, a devotion to software craftsmanship, an unwavering commitment to quality, and the desire to have their work seen by tens of millions of people worldwide.

What You'll Do:

  • Server & Infrastructure Execution: Complete multi-day backend engineering tasks with minimal guidance. Design, deploy, and support scalable server architectures and cloud infrastructure.
  • DevOps & Pipeline Automation: Build, maintain, and optimise robust CI/CD workflows and automated deployment pipelines across cloud environments and build platforms.
  • Architecture & Planning: Participate in technical planning, architectural brainstorming, and technical cost/complexity estimation for multi-week efforts.
  • Team Efficiency & Quality: Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and drive initiatives to improve overall engineering team productivity, tooling, and code quality.
  • Technical Communication: Participate in internal tech talks, share best practices, and maintain collaborative peer relationships across engineering squads.

What You Bring:

  • Programming Languages: Demonstrated proficiency in Python, Go and C# for backend services, automation scripts, and custom tooling.
  • Cloud Infrastructure & IaC: Hands-on experience provisioning and managing AWS infrastructure using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
  • Build & Platform Systems: Experience configuring and managing automated orchestration/build platforms (e.g., Unreal Horde, Jenkins, or TeamCity), preferably with Game Engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, etc.).
  • Source Control Management: Strong working knowledge of version control systems and workflow strategies (GitHub, Perforce/Helix Core, Git-flow, branch management).
  • Work Execution: Proven ability to manage moderate-to-complex technical tasks independently, break down project deliverables, and communicate status accurately.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience writing server-side logic and managing database dependencies for live applications or multiplayer services.
  • Have worked in, or has a strong interest in the gaming industry
  • Interest in infrastructure deployment and monitoring
  • Interest in mentoring junior team members or interns, framing task deconstruction, and conducting technical interviews.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure security best practices.

What We Offer You:

  • Competitive salary and discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • 26 days holiday, plus bank holidays & 2 paid personal days
  • 6 months fully paid maternity/adoption leave and 16 weeks fully paid paternity leave (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Pension plan, with a double matching employer contribution
  • Private medical & dental insurance and healthcare cash plan
  • Life insurance, personal accident insurance and income protection
  • Mental health and neurodiversity support programs
  • Company Employee Stock Purchase Plan (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Fitness reimbursement plan, worth £600 per annum
  • Flexible working hours
  • Weekly happy hours, seasonal parties and monthly social events
  • Annual rail season ticket advance and cycle to work scheme

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
