The role works closely with NASA Environmental Management Office subject matter experts, the Contracting Officer’s Representative, project managers, and contractor personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned environmental work packages and onsite personnel supporting NASA operations at Johnson Space Center and associated facilities.
  • Coordinate daily work to maintain adequate staffing and uninterrupted environmental support during normal operations, emergencies, administrative closures, and hurricane response activities.
  • Ensure environmental inspections, sampling, regulated waste activities, spill response support, and related deliverables are completed safely, accurately, and within required schedules.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requirements, environmental permits, NASA Procedural Requirements, NASA Policy Directives, and site procedures.
  • Coordinate with NASA Environmental Management Office subject matter experts and management before regulatory communications, formal submittals, or responses to inspectors.
  • Brief inspection results, risks, constraints, findings, and corrective actions to Government subject matter experts and project managers.
  • Support environmental audits, investigations, functional reviews, and follow-up activities through closure of findings and deficiencies.
  • Ensure personnel maintain required training, qualifications, certifications, medical clearances, and personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
  • Maintain complete and defensible records, field documentation, analytical results, and tracking information in accordance with NASA records-management and program requirements.
  • Support emergency spill response readiness and required response times, including after-hours callout coverage and coordination with NASA emergency personnel.
  • Participate in periodic progress meetings and promptly elevate staffing, schedule, safety, quality, or compliance issues requiring corrective action.
  • Perform other environmental support duties within the scope of the Johnson Space Center NESS order, including occasional approved travel.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or completion of an equivalent two-year undergraduate academic program in environmental science or a related science field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience directly applicable to federal government environmental work in Texas as a team lead for work packages and personnel.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and Texas environmental statutes and regulations, including RCRA requirements relevant to regulated waste management.
  • Ability to lead personnel, coordinate multiple environmental work activities, communicate with Government stakeholders, and produce accurate, timely documentation.
  • Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday during required operating hours and support emergency or after-hours response when assigned.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, or move 30 pounds or more; bend, stoop, twist, and reach; stand or walk for two hours or more at a time; and wear required PPE.
  • Valid Texas Real ID driver’s license and ability to meet applicable site access, safety, health, and training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NASA, Johnson Space Center, or another federal facility environmental program.
  • Experience with environmental compliance inspections, regulated waste operations, spill response, stormwater, wastewater, petroleum storage, or air compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with NASA environmental systems, records requirements, standard operating procedures, E-Trak, or comparable compliance-tracking tools.
  • Current environmental training or certifications applicable to assigned duties, such as RCRA hazardous waste or HAZWOPER training.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent two-year undergraduate academic program in environmental science or a related science field, plus at least two years of directly applicable federal government environmental work in Texas leading work packages and personnel.

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
