The posting

THE OPPORTUNITY

Nearwater Capital’s Operations team supports the firm’s three business lines: Liquid Markets, Risk Retention, and Capital Markets. We are looking for an Associate who will work across all three, rotating through products rather than sitting with one. You will own the full trade lifecycle for commercial paper, repo, fixed income, and swap transactions, working directly with the front office, counterparties, and custodians. This is a hands-on seat on a small team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Capture, confirm, and settle trades across commercial paper, repo, fixed income, and swaps
  • Monitor settlement, resolve fails and breaks, and escalate issues with clear context and a proposed fix
  • Complete daily position, cash, and trade reconciliations across business lines, clearing breaks with counterparties, custodians, and internal teams
  • Support margin and collateral operations including IA/IM/VM calls, and dispute handling
  • Act as a single point of contact for the Liquid Markets, Risk Retention, and Capital Markets teams on operational questions
  • Cover for teammates across products, so the team always has depth
  • Maintain accurate books and records, and coordinate with Finance, Compliance, and Technology on reporting, controls, and system changes
  • Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives; contribute to documentation and procedure build-out.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in operations or settlements at a financial services firm, ideally on equities, fixed income, repo, or derivatives (particularly total return swaps)
  • Working knowledge of the trade lifecycle, including confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and break resolution
  • Experience with at least two product types, or a clear record of picking up new ones quickly
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication with front office and counterparties
  • Comfort working in the New York office five days a week

Preferred:

  • Experience with commercial paper, repo, total return swaps, or collateral and margin
  • Familiarity with Enfusion, Acadia, or Bloomberg
  • Exposure to process automation or reporting tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, or Python
  • Experience at a firm of similar size or complexity

HOW YOU WORK

  • You take ownership of an issue and see it through to resolution
  • You treat a break as urgent until you know the cause
  • You learn a new product quickly and ask sharp questions along the way
  • You communicate clearly when something goes wrong, with the facts and a next step
  • You share what you know so the team can cover for each other

WHAT YOU'LL GET

  • Exposure to every business line, so you build a full view of the trade lifecycle rather than a single product
  • Direct access to senior operations leadership and the front office
  • Ownership of process improvements that you design and see through
  • A small team where your work is visible and your coverage grows with your skills

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
