Job Description

Please note - this role will be remote or hybrid working, subject to the successful applicant's location in line with company policy

About the role

We are looking for a Security Architect to join our central Architecture & Design practice at NEC Software Solutions.

This role sits at the heart of how we design, assure, and operate secure systems and services across both internal platforms and customer‑facing solutions. You will work closely with architects, engineering teams, and the wider cyber security function to ensure security is embedded by design.

This is a hands‑on, design‑led role. You will be involved in real delivery, real assurance, and real decision‑making, from early threat modelling and risk assessment through to architecture assurance, accreditation support, and implementation guidance.

The role is well suited to someone who enjoys balancing pragmatic security design with governance, assurance, and stakeholder engagement in complex, regulated environments.

What you’ll be doing

  • Producing security architecture designs for internal systems and customer solutions, aligned with the overarching architecture framework.
  • Conducting threat modelling and risk assessments to identify and manage security risks in applications, platforms, and services.
  • Producing security assurance documentation to support internal governance, customer assurance, and formal accreditation activities.
  • Working closely with Technical Architects and Enterprise Architects to ensure solutions are secure by default and proportionate to risk.
  • Engaging with the wider cyber security team to assess the impact of emerging threats and vulnerabilities (CVEs) and advise on appropriate remediation.
  • Supporting delivery teams with security advice and guidance, including hands‑on engagement where needed.
  • Presenting security designs and risk positions to the Technical Assurance Board and supporting assurance decision‑making.
  • Contributing to bids and sales activities by providing security architecture input and responses to security questionnaires.
  • Supporting the evaluation and controlled adoption of new security technologies.
  • Continuously developing your skills and knowledge in line with evolving threats, technologies, and standards.

Why join us?

  • Work on meaningful systems supporting critical public‑sector services.
  • Be part of a collaborative architecture practice spanning security, technical, and enterprise domains.
  • Balance hands‑on security design with governance and assurance.
  • Grow your career in an environment that values pragmatism, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

About you

You’re likely to be:

  • A Security Architect or senior security engineer with strong design experience, or
  • A technical specialist ready to step into a broader architecture and assurance role.

You’ll bring:

  • Practical experience designing and assuring secure systems.
  • Strong understanding of security principles, non‑functional requirements, and risk management.
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders across engineering, architecture, and governance.
  • Experience working in regulated or public‑sector environments is a plus.

Familiarity with standards such as ISO 27001, NCSC Cyber Essentials, NIST, or CIS is desirable, but we value sound judgement and practical experience over certification alone.

Additional Information

We pride ourselves in offering an excellent benefits package, including an above average pension scheme. When you join the team at NEC Software Solutions, you are provided with the following:

  • Private Medical Cover funded by NEC for Employees (with the option to add family members at an additional cost)
  • 25 days paid holiday with the option to buy/sell (FTE)
  • 4 x basic salary life assurance cover funded by NEC (with the option to increase cover at an additional cost)
  • A Group Pension Plan with fantastic employer contributions up to a maximum of 8.5%
  • A selection of flexible benefits to suit your individual needs
  • All colleagues get free access to LinkedIn Learning. Over 15000 courses covering a huge breadth of subjects. Learn about what you like, when you like, how you like.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre-existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required.
  • All offers are subject to satisfactory vetting, references and occupational health checks.
  • Depending on the nature of the role a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check may also be required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
