Essential Duties

Welcoming Presence

  • Greets students, families and visitors at arrival and dismissal, setting a calm, positive tone for the day.
  • Supports the main office with visitor check-in, badge checks and directions, following district visitor procedures.
  • Learns students' names and builds positive relationships across all student groups.

Student Advocacy and Support

  • Serves as a trusted adult students can approach with worries, conflicts or safety concerns.
  • Uses de-escalation, active listening and restorative conversation to calm minor conflicts before they grow.
  • Refers students to counselors, administrators or the nurse when concerns go beyond the role — including bullying, self-harm warning signs, abuse indicators or threats.
  • Reports concerns that may need a behavioral threat assessment to the building administrator, consistent with Board Policy JHDE.
  • Fulfills mandated reporter obligations under Missouri law.

Campus Safety

  • Provides visible supervision in hallways, cafeteria, parking lots, bus loading zones and at assigned events.
  • Checks exterior doors, gates and access points during the day; reports propped doors, broken hardware or lighting issues through an Operations work order.
  • Monitors for unauthorized visitors and reports them to administration and the SRO.
  • Carries a district radio and keeps it charged and on the assigned channel.
  • Documents incidents and observations accurately and on time.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Knows and follows the district Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Response Protocol (Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter).
  • Assists with drills and reunification, and helps account for students during emergencies.
  • Acts as a calm, directed resource for staff and students during an incident, under the direction of administration and first responders.

Other Duties

  • Attends required trainings and safety team meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Successful completion of a Missouri criminal background check, FBI fingerprinting and Family Care Safety Registry screening.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to complete district-required training within the first 90 days: CPR/First Aid/AED, Standard Response Protocol, de-escalation, mandated reporter, and Stop the Bleed.

Preferred

  • Experience working with children or youth — paraprofessional, coaching, youth ministry, mentoring, camp or similar.
  • Background in school safety, security, military, corrections, EMS, fire service or customer-facing work.
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or similar de-escalation programs.
  • Familiarity with restorative practices or trauma-informed approaches.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Warm, approachable and patient with students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Stays calm and uses sound judgment under pressure.
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with students, parents, staff and law enforcement.
  • Keeps student information confidential under FERPA and district policy.
  • Writes clear, factual incident notes.
  • Uses a two-way radio, basic computer tools and the district work order system.
  • Works as part of a team and takes direction from administrators and first responders.
  • Models the professionalism, dress and conduct expected of district staff.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Stands and walks for most of the shift, indoors and outdoors, in all weather.
  • Climbs stairs and moves quickly across campus in an emergency.
  • Lifts and carries up to 25 lbs.
  • Hears and responds to radio traffic in noisy settings such as cafeterias and bus lots.
  • Some evening or weekend events may be assigned.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
