SCHOOL COUNSELOR

SCHOOL:

Elementary School

POSITION OVERVIEW New Fairfield Public Schools seeks a compassionate, collaborative, student-centered Elementary School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year. The counselor will support students’ social-emotional well-being, personal growth, and academic success through classroom lessons, individual and small-group counseling, and collaboration with staff and families.

GENERAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide developmental school counseling and social-emotional lessons to elementary students.
  • Provide individual check-ins, short-term counseling, and targeted small-group counseling.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, peer relationships, problem-solving, school adjustment, and positive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff to identify student needs and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in CST, PPT, Section 504, and other student/parent meetings as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with school psychologists, social workers, administrators, and other staff to support student needs and a positive school climate.
  • Maintain appropriate and confidential student records.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Connecticut School Counselor Certification (068)
  • Knowledge of elementary child development and students’ social-emotional needs.
  • Strong counseling, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Experience with individual, small-group, and classroom-based counseling preferred.

POSITION TO START: Immediately

POSITION TO END: June 2027

SALARY: Per NFEA contract
