The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO’s External Affairs department invites applications for a full-time Registration Coordinator.

SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the Registration Coordinator is to facilitate the registration of Market Participants into the NYISO’s wholesale markets in accordance with the MST-Market Services Tariff and OATT-Open Access Transmission Tariff. This role necessitates a strong customer service focus, providing direct support to prospective and existing Market Participants registering to participate in NYISO’s wholesale markets. The Registration Coordinator role aligns with the department’s efforts to address technical inquiries from a diverse group of electric generators, utilities, demand response providers, traders, and consumers that seek to participate in New York’s wholesale power markets.

The position requires working independently and collaboratively across multiple departments within the NYISO, as well as with external entities, including prospective customers and existing Market Participants seeking to make amendments to applications, process name changes, mergers, and acquisitions. This includes consultants, attorneys and industry professionals representing clients to understand registration requirements in NY’s wholesale electric markets.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical to this role, which involves extensive collaboration across the NYISO and with a diverse range of industry stakeholders. The position leads discussions with engineers, attorneys, accountants, energy consultants, and business professionals, requiring the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. Strong attention to detail and experience reviewing contractual documentation related to ownership, credit, finance, affiliate relationships, and NYISO tariff requirements are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the intake, coordination, and tracking of new registration applications and amendments to existing registrations for NYISO markets and market related systems in accordance with NYISO tariffs.
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply complex technical information such as the NYISO tariffs, operating manuals, technical bulletins, procedures, business processes, NYISO systems and a general understanding of customers organizational documents and tax forms/financial relationships in relation to Market Participant registration.
  • Assist with training of staff in registration procedures including developing educational materials.
  • Ability to manage large caseloads, competing priorities, and multiple cases at varying complexities to process inquiries in accordance with NYISO tariff requirments.
  • Ability to coordinate with Market Participants, Transmission Owners, consultants in conjunction with internal NYISO SMEs to ensure required registration requirements are compliant with NYISO’s tariffs and service agreements.
  • Identify, initiate, and contribute to the continual improvement of registration work processes/documents in accordance with the evolving NYISO markets.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the energy industry and NYISO system applications by following pertinent energy news as well as NYISO technical bulletins and Manual documentation changes. This includes attending project meetings directly involved in the development and implementation of new products and services in the NYISO wholesale markets.
  • Responsible for understanding all applicable NYISO applications that are associated with the NYISO markets, this includes but is not limited to data entry into the MIS-Market Information Systems and Salesforce. Facilitate discussions with new generators on the direct connect for metering / base point signals.
  • Adhere to NYISO internal departmental audit controls / requirements. Perform queries / data collection within multiple NYISO applications to support annual and ad hoc audits, including adherence to SOC1 auditing controls.
  • Communicate technical/procedural information directly to Market Participants, external customers, and NYISO staff to facilitate processes on market entry, maintenance, and exit.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager Client Services & Technical Solutions, Manager of Stakeholder Services to improve the NYISO registration process and customer journey with a seamless handoff from registration to participation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment under demanding time constraints, in a deadline driven environment.
  • Generate Salesforce reports and dashboards with registration data for senior management.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college required (Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics or Communications).

EXPERIENCE

Three to five years’ experience with registration applications for participation in the energy markets or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience in the energy or utility industry with strong understanding of technical products or services is desired.

Salesforce experience is preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Technical, Business Process, Salesforce or Customer Service-related certificates are a plus but not required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; PC proficiency; sound business acumen; Able to effectively interface with all levels of internal and external customers; Ability to perform in a team enivorment.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical documents. Ability to respond to a wide variety of inquiries from Market Participants, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to Market Participants, department managers and other employees.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of geometry / trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to understand more advanced mathematical concepts in interpreting technical bulletins and documents.
  • Ability to resolve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • General level of competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet programs. Intermediate competency is desired in market support software systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences, and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends, or holidays.
