The posting

Work for a family-owned company committed to doing local journalism the right way. Receive terrific training while you launch a meaningful career in an exciting field. Work with an amazing team and know you’re making a difference.

ABC 17 News is looking for a Morning Anchor/MMJ with a superior on-air presence, strong editorial instincts, and a genuine passion for journalism. This is not a read-the-prompter role. We want someone who is deeply invested in the news, actively engaged in the newsroom, and eager to help shape the stories we tell and how we tell them. The right candidate will be a newsroom leader who works collaboratively with the morning team, champions our brand, and helps ensure every newscast reflects our commitment to urgency, accuracy, and viewer-focused storytelling. This is an opportunity for an enterprising journalist who wants to do more than deliver the news—to help drive it.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities include anchoring our morning newscasts, writing, copyediting, and posting to social/digital platforms. The anchor will model urgency and accuracy, help motivate and mentor team members, and contribute to a positive, collaborative newsroom culture. The position also includes producing long-form investigative and beyond-the-surface stories that go deeper than the daily headlines and give viewers a more complete understanding of the stories that matter to them. Additional responsibilities may include reporting, live shots, web reporting, social media posting, and other duties as assigned.

SKILLS:

  • Exceptional news judgment: An expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers, and issues, with the ability to recognize what matters most to our viewers.
  • Editorial leadership: The initiative and instincts to help shape newscasts, identify important stories, challenge assumptions, and contribute meaningfully to daily coverage decisions.
  • A passion for journalism: Someone with a genuine curiosity about the news, a desire to understand the issues behind the headlines, and an active commitment to staying informed and engaged.
  • Research-driven storytelling: An appreciation for fact-based reporting, context, and deeper examination of issues, along with an interest in investigative and long-form journalism.
  • Brand leadership: The ability to champion ABC 17 News on-air and throughout the newsroom, modeling urgency, accuracy, credibility, and viewer-focused storytelling.
  • Team leadership and collaboration: Strong people skills, a team-first attitude, and the ability to guide, motivate, and work effectively with producers, reporters, meteorologists, and other colleagues.
  • Strong writing and reporting: The ability to develop enterprising story ideas and communicate information clearly across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Adaptability and initiative: A willingness to take ownership, embrace new challenges, and help the newsroom respond effectively to breaking news and changing priorities.

HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position, scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:00 am – 11:00 am, with flexibility required of the employee.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Two years of on-air news experience are preferred, along with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, or a related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The position will require operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. The candidate must have a valid Missouri driver’s license and pass a drug test and background check.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
