Step Behind the Lens: Launch Your Television Career at KVIA-TV!

Production Assistant | KVIA ABC-7 (El Paso / Las Cruces)

Status: Non-Exempt | Hours Vary (Flexible Schedule Required)

Ever wondered what it feels like when the studio floor goes quiet, the countdown hits zero, and the red tally lights flick on?

Welcome to live television at KVIA-TV, the undisputed #1 station in El Paso and Las Cruces. We bring the Borderland its most critical news, sports, and live events every single day—and our production team is the heartbeat making it all come to life.

If you are obsessed with media, thrive under the adrenaline rush of live broadcasting, and want a hands-on learning environment where you actually build real production chops from day one, this is your entry point. We’re not looking for someone to stand quietly in the corner; we’re looking for hungry, curious creators ready to learn the craft inside and out.

Be Part of Live TV

Forget sitting in a lecture hall or fetching dry coffee. Here, you get immediate hands-on access to professional broadcast gear. In this entry level position as a Production Assistant, you will touch nearly every technical discipline in live television:

  • Command the Studio: Frame the shot and drive broadcast cameras during high-stakes live newscasts and specialty programming.
  • Run the Soundboard: Manage dynamic live audio levels, ensuring anchors, reporters, and special guests hit the air crystal clear.
  • Shape the Visuals: Craft bold on-screen graphics and edit day-of video packages under deadline to feed our fast-paced daily newscasts.
  • Master the Control Room: Learn teleprompter operations, studio lighting, technical directing, and directing workflows.

Why This Room Is Built for Growth

This isn’t just a job; it’s an incubator. We actively promote from within, and our production department is famous for turning motivated newcomers into seasoned directors, technical directors, editors, and broadcast engineers. If you have the drive to absorb knowledge, our team will teach you the ropes of every station in the control room.

Who Fits the Crew

  • The Quick Thinker: Live TV moves fast. You stay cool, composed, and adaptable when plans pivot on the fly.
  • The Sponge: You don't need a decade of experience—you need an unmatched appetite to learn, take feedback, and level up your skills every shift.
  • The Team Player: Production is an ensemble sport. You bring high energy, positive vibes, and a collaborative mindset to the studio.
  • The Gear & Tech Enthusiast: Video editing experience, media coursework, or a college degree in communications/film is a plus, but passion, reliability, and technical curiosity are what truly matter.
  • Physical & Schedule Readiness: Broadcast hours vary across early mornings, late nights, and weekends, and you must be able to handle standard studio equipment lifting/handling.

Ready to Go Live?

Bring your passion to the market's dominant newsroom and start building a real career in broadcasting.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
