Position Summary

The Feed Room Operator supports NewsNation's live newsgathering and Broadcast Operations by Receiving, Monitoring, Recording, Routing, and Transmitting incoming and outgoing signals for network programming. Working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, this role serves as the first layer of technical quality control, ensuring the reliability and integrity of live and recorded content used across NewsNation broadcasts.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication, troubleshooting with decision-making skills who can work effectively in a team environment while maintaining accuracy under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, Monitor, Record, and Transmit live and recorded broadcast signals.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing feeds utilizing TVU, LiveU, Dejero, Satellite, IP-based and Streaming transmission technologies.
  • Route essential sources into Frame Syncs for live broadcasts
  • Schedule and manage recordings for New York-based broadcasts and production operations.
  • Perform quality control checks on incoming and outgoing video and audio signals to ensure broadcast standards are met.
  • Troubleshoot transmission, routing, and signal issues and escalate concerns as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Control Room, Assignment Desk, Engineering, and Field Operations teams.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of feed activity, recordings, and transmission schedules.
  • Support Breaking News, Special Events, and Live coverage requirements.
  • Identify workflow efficiencies and contribute to continuous operational improvements.
  • Adhere to all technical, operational, and safety procedures while meeting strict deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of television newsgathering, broadcast operations, feed room, master control or related experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven live news environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and common business software applications.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to technical quality control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by network leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TVU, LiveU, Dejero, Bitcentral, and ENPS systems.
  • Familiarity with Satellite, IP, bonded cellular and Streaming transmission workflows.
  • Experience supporting live Network News or Major-Market television operations.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality control procedures and network technical standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Broadcast Production, Journalism or a related or equivalent field professional experience.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Must be able to report On-Site to NewsNation's New York Newsroom and Production facility.
  • Schedule may include Mornings, Evenings, Overnights, Weekends, Holidays, and extended hours.
  • Availability for Breaking News, Special Events, and emergency coverage is required.
  • Attendance, Punctuality, and Schedule flexibility are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while supporting live television operations.

This position is represented by IBEW Local 1212 and is covered by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
