The posting

PIX11 News (WPIX-TV and PIX11+) is seeking a full-time Meteorologist to serve as our primary weekend morning meteorologist and a key contributor to weather coverage across television, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

The successful candidate will deliver accurate, timely, and engaging forecasts; create compelling multiplatform weather content; and play an important role in PIX11+'s expanding live streaming operation. This position requires a skilled forecaster, strong communicator, and innovative content creator who can translate complex meteorological data into clear, useful, and impactful storytelling for audiences wherever they consume news.

The Meteorologist will be responsible for preparing and presenting forecasts, collaborating closely with the weather team to maintain consistency and continuity across all public-facing weather coverage, and delivering energetic and easy-to-understand weather presentations. The role includes supporting weekend morning newscasts and weekday shifts focused on broadcast, streaming, digital, and social content.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in the studio, in the field during significant weather events, and producing digital and social-first content that enhances audience engagement and understanding. The successful candidate should also be comfortable creating content on news and community topics beyond the immediate weather forecast when needed.

Forecasting & On-Air Presentation

  • Produce and deliver accurate weather forecasts for scheduled newscasts, streaming programs, and weather cut-ins.
  • Take primary ownership of weekend morning weather forecasting across broadcast, streaming, digital, and social platforms.
  • Communicate weather information clearly, confidently, and conversationally, with an emphasis on viewer utility and understanding.
  • Serve as primary meteorologist during severe weather coverage, providing extended on-air, streaming, and digital reporting as needed during significant weather events.
  • Monitor forecast models, radar, alerts, and real-time data to adjust forecasts throughout the day.
  • Build strong on-air chemistry and collaborate effectively with anchors, reporters, and other meteorologists.
  • Translate complex meteorological information into clear, engaging, audience-focused storytelling across multiple platforms.

Graphics & Content Production

  • Build and update daily weather graphics using WSI and other forecasting tools.
  • Create visual content tailored for broadcast, streaming, web, social, and mobile audiences.
  • Maintain consistency in forecast accuracy, visual presentation, and messaging across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with producers on segment development, weather storytelling, breaking coverage plans, and data integration.
  • Develop explainers, special projects, and weather-related franchise content that support audience growth and engagement.

Streaming, Digital & Social Media

  • Serve as a meteorologist for PIX11+ live streaming, including breaking weather events, severe weather coverage, special programming, and regularly scheduled live streams.
  • Develop and present weather content specifically designed for streaming audiences, including extended forecasts, explainers, live discussions, and special coverage.
  • Create platform-specific weather content, including short-form videos, forecasts, explainers, storm updates, and audience engagement features.
  • Create engaging vertical video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, and emerging platforms using platform-specific storytelling techniques.
  • Produce weather content optimized for mobile-first audiences and social distribution.
  • Publish weather forecasts, alerts, articles, videos, and related content across station-owned digital platforms.
  • Track audience engagement and use platform insights to help inform content strategy and improve performance across digital and social channels.
  • Engage with viewers across digital and social platforms when appropriate.
  • Contribute to digital and streaming coverage of news, community, and special-event topics beyond weather as assigned.

Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate with news leadership and newsroom personnel on daily weather coverage priorities and severe weather planning.
  • Participate in editorial meetings to identify weather impacts, major forecast storylines, and coverage opportunities.
  • Work closely with digital, streaming, and social teams to maximize audience reach and engagement.
  • Support community outreach efforts, including school visits, public appearances, preparedness initiatives, and station events.
  • Assist in long-term planning for seasonal weather coverage, major weather events, and special projects.

Operational Duties

  • Maintain proficiency with weather equipment, forecasting tools, graphics systems, and related software.
  • Assist in identifying and troubleshooting issues related to weather systems and workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, company policies, and journalistic standards.
  • Remain available for coverage of significant weather events, breaking news situations, and other special assignments as needed.

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM), AMS Seal, NWA Seal, or progress toward certification preferred.
  • Minimum five years of on-air forecasting experience in a professional newsroom environment. Major-market experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of forecast models, radar interpretation, severe weather analysis, and climate trends.
  • Advanced proficiency with weather graphics and forecasting systems, including WSI or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated success creating engaging social media, streaming, and vertical video content.
  • Strong understanding of platform-specific storytelling techniques for streaming, social media, and mobile audiences.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Sound editorial judgment and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to perform effectively during severe weather, breaking news, and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social teams.
  • Availability to work weekends, early mornings, holidays, severe weather events, and other special coverage assignments.
  • Proficiency in WordPress or similar digital publishing platforms.
  • Strong understanding of content publishing best practices across major social media platforms.
  • Proficiency with digital video editing systems, including Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or similar platforms.
  • Experience hosting or contributing to live-streamed content.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
