The posting

Research Assistant, Long-Read Sequencing and Spatial Genomics

Role Overview You will support long-read sequencing (PacBio Revio, Oxford Nanopore PromethION) and spatial genomics (GeoMx DSP, CosMx SMI, Xenium, Visium HD) projects from sample receipt to data handover. You will also help optimize protocols and develop new methods.

Key Responsibilities

Long-Read Sequencing

  • Extract nucleic acids from diverse sample types, including high molecular weight (HMW) DNA from tissue, cells, blood and difficult samples such as plants, invertebrates and microbial communities.
  • Perform sample and library QC (Qubit, NanoDrop, Femto Pulse/TapeStation), DNA shearing and size selection.
  • Prepare libraries for PacBio (HiFi, Kinnex, Iso-Seq) and Oxford Nanopore (ligation, barcoding/multiplexing) workflows.
  • Set up, load and monitor runs on PacBio Revio and ONT PromethION. Record run metrics and flag issues early.

Spatial Genomics

  • Assist with tissue preparation, FFPE and fresh frozen sectioning, staining (H&E, IF) and imaging for GeoMx DSP, CosMx SMI, Xenium and Visium HD.
  • Perform RNA quality assessment (e.g., DV200, RIN) and prepare slides to platform specifications.
  • Support instrument setup and run operation under supervision.

Method Development and Troubleshooting

  • Help optimize protocols for challenging samples (low input, degraded, high contaminant) and evaluate new kits, reagents and workflows.
  • Troubleshoot failed or low-yield runs with the senior team, and document root causes and fixes.
  • Write and update SOPs.

Sample and Data Management

  • Track samples, metadata and project documentation across long-read and spatial workflows.
  • Assist with sample, library, run and imaging QC, and organize raw data for transfer.
  • Support data handover to bioinformatics and external collaborators, including data transfer and basic integrity checks.

Coordination and Documentation

  • Coordinate project timelines and sample logistics with internal teams, customers and collaborators.
  • Maintain accurate lab records and contribute QC summaries and methods sections to project reports.
  • Support collaborative initiatives such as the SpACE-Dx project with A*STAR GIS.

Inventory and Laboratory Maintenance

  • Maintain inventory of reagents, kits and consumables (including SMRT Cells, flow cells and spatial slides), monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering with vendors and finance.
  • Keep reagent labeling, documentation and tracking accurate.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration and service scheduling, and keep the lab organized and run-ready.
  • Follow established SOPs, safety procedures and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related fields.
  • 1–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (academic or industry).
  • Hands-on experience with nucleic acid extraction, QC and NGS library preparation.
  • Experience with PacBio or ONT workflows, HMW DNA handling, histology or spatial platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with the Linux command line, Python or R, or basic sequencing data QC is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, careful technique and good documentation habits.
  • Curious and methodical when troubleshooting.
  • Proactive, dependable and comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research and service environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
