Position: Cook Schedule: AM & PM Shifts Available Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Position Summary

Shepherd’s Inn Assisted Living is looking for a dependable, caring, and motivated Cook to join our team! Our kitchen staff play an important role in making our residents feel at home by preparing delicious, nutritious meals in a welcoming environment.

We are looking for someone who enjoys cooking, takes pride in their work, and wants to make a difference in the lives of seniors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals for assisted living residents.
  • Follow planned menus, recipes, and resident dietary requirements.
  • Accommodate special diets, food allergies, and modified food textures as directed.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and dining environment.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food storage procedures.
  • Monitor food temperatures and maintain required documentation.
  • Assist with meal preparation, portioning, serving, and cleanup.
  • Wash dishes, sanitize equipment, and maintain kitchen supplies.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to management.
  • Provide friendly, respectful service to residents.
  • Work collaboratively with caregivers, management, and other team members.
  • Follow all facility policies, procedures, and applicable food safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Previous cooking or food service experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in assisted living, senior living, healthcare, or dietary services is a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic food preparation and kitchen sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow recipes, menus, and special dietary instructions.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and coworkers.
  • Must meet applicable food safety training requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull kitchen supplies up to 25–50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks.
  • Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, kitchen equipment, and cleaning products.
