This role focuses on revising and improving existing courses to enhance clarity, rigor, and effectiveness. The SME will update course materials, learning activities, and assessments to better support clinical judgment development and student readiness for practice, with consideration for competency-based and NGN-informed approaches.

  • Assist in creating and redeveloping course content by providing clinical expertise, real-world context, and evidence-based guidance.
  • Offer insights into current clinical practice to ensure content reflects real-world application and patient care scenarios.
  • Provide input on learning activities to ensure they are clinically relevant and support development of clinical judgment.
  • Contribute to the development and review of assessments (e.g., NGN-style items, case studies, performance-based tasks) to ensure clinical accuracy and realism.
  • Validate content for clinical accuracy, relevance, and appropriateness for level of learner.
  • Identify outdated content, gaps, or inconsistencies and recommend updates.
  • Collaborate with instructional design, assessment, learning experience design, and VR teams to inform content development.
  • Participate in content validation and review sessions with internal teams and subject matter experts.
  • Stay current with advancements in nursing practice and provide recommendations for content updates.
  • Provide feedback based on learner performance trends and observed gaps in practice readiness.
  • Ensure content reflects safe, current, and evidence-based nursing practice.

Engagement Expectations:

  • Be available for scheduled meetings, working sessions, and content reviews as needed.
  • Respond to communications in a timely manner and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Come prepared to meetings with thoughtful input, feedback, and recommendations.
  • Actively participate in collaborative discussions and contribute to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate a positive, solutions-oriented mindset when providing feedback.
  • Be open to iteration and revision as part of the development process.
  • Respect timelines, project scope, and team workflows.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively when questions or challenges arise.
  • Engage as a collaborative partner invested in the quality and success of the final product.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required; doctoral preparation preferred.
  • Active, unencumbered RN license required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more nursing specialty areas (e.g., pharmacology, medical-surgical, community and public health, fundamentals, chronic illness, pediatrics, geriatrics, maternal health).
  • Recent or current clinical experience strongly preferred to ensure relevance to practice.
  • Experience teaching in a nursing program or serving as a subject matter expert in curriculum or course development.
  • Familiarity with AACN Essentials (2021) and NCLEX/NGN expectations.
  • Ability to apply clinical knowledge to support development of realistic, practice-based learning experiences.
  • Experience reviewing or contributing to assessments (e.g., test items, case studies, performance-based evaluations) preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with instructional design, assessment, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for providing clear, actionable feedback.
  • Comfort working in structured, deadline-driven development environments.
  • Ability to provide constructive input while remaining flexible and open to iteration.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
