The posting

Financial Crime Tech Engineer

Zurich \| German \& English

Follow the data. Untangle the systems. Build something that matters.

Some engineering challenges come with higher stakes: helping detect suspicious activity, keeping screening platforms reliable and making sure investigators have the information they need.

If you enjoy getting under the bonnet of complex applications—and tend to ask “could we automate this?” before reaching for another manual workaround—this could be your next adventure.

A financial services organisation is looking for a curious, hands\-on engineer to help run and improve the technology behind its compliance and financial crime operations.

There’s plenty to explore, and you’ll have ownership of the journey.

Your mission

You’ll work where software, data and compliance meet, keeping critical applications running while helping shape what comes next.

Expect to:

  • Connect the dots: build API and messaging integrations between banking applications and external screening providers.
  • Keep the engines running: monitor, troubleshoot and improve systems supporting sanctions, PEP, adverse\-media and transaction screening.
  • Retire the repetitive: automate screening and investigation workflows wherever it makes sense.
  • Explore practical AI: identify tools and approaches that make engineering and compliance work more effective.
  • Navigate change: take upgrades, vendor releases and technical projects through to delivery.
  • Make the evidence clear: ensure solutions are traceable and auditable, and turn data into useful analysis and visualisations.
  • Help plot the route: contribute to architecture, technology choices and technical roadmaps.

What’s in your toolkit?

You bring five or more years in software engineering, ideally in financial services or another regulated environment, plus hands\-on experience with AML, KYC, compliance or screening applications.

You understand sanctions, PEP and adverse\-media screening, and you’re comfortable taking responsibility when a production system needs attention.

Your technical kit should include:

Python \| GitHub \| Kubernetes/OpenShift \| Helm \| Oracle \| PostgreSQL \| SQL/PL\-SQL

You also bring experience with APIs, messaging, system implementation and technical project delivery. Java, Spring or Neo4j would add another useful string to your bow.

A relevant degree and fluent German and English round out the essentials.

Why take this route?

Room to steer. You’ll have autonomy and a voice in how the platforms develop.

A challenge with purpose. Your engineering will support the people protecting a financial institution and its clients.

Plenty to keep you curious. Application operations, integrations, data, automation and AI all feature in the work.

Good company along the way. Expect a diverse team, a flat hierarchy and close collaboration across engineering and the business.

Curious enough to explore?

You don’t need every technology above neatly packed into your CV. Relevant compliance application experience, sound engineering judgement and the willingness to learn are worth a conversation.

I’m Kirsten—a South African in Switzerland with over 14 years in technology recruitment, a curious mind and a little sunshine to bring to the conversation.

Tell me what you enjoy building, fixing or figuring out. I’ll share the details, and we can see whether this is a journey worth taking.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
