Description of Work

Recruitment Range: $81,504 - $122,256

IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date listed.

NOTE: This is a time-limited position, subject to funding availability, which may last up to 12 months (1 year). Time limited employees are eligible for State Benefits. If you have questions concerning the time-limited status of this position, you may inquire if selected for an interview.

This position will develop, design, configure, script, implement, and support data mining and database query applications for the Medicaid Investigations Division. This will involve both the design and use of a complex system of analytical tools interacting with numerous disparate databases and large sets of data. This will include the implementation and use of data management and visualization software (e.g., at least one of R, Python, SAS, Stata, etc.) and will also involve the development and use of agentic AI and the use of those agents in MID’s data-mining efforts.

This position will deploy the above applications and systems in connection with databases to engage in data mining campaigns, conducting analysis of the same, and implementing ongoing systems for the autonomous deployment of data mining scripts and the use and management of AI agents in these ongoing data-mining campaigns. This position will use large databases (i.e., those that exceed the processing capacity of spreadsheet applications like Excel or other database software/programs) and crafting original queries in SQL or a similar relational database programming language, and actually designing, developing, and implementing completely new data analytics databases and applications in addition to analyzing the results of the data mining that those systems will facilitate.

This position will provide data, data access, and data analytics systems, support, training, and information to MID investigators, auditors and attorneys in connection with the use of data mining and database query systems and applications. This will include Medicaid claims data, as well as other data sets in other databases containing provider and recipient data. This position will develop built-from-scratch browser-based data analysis and visualization applications. This position will assist in deploying applications on our NCDOJ & MID servers for use by other team members.

The Medicaid Investigations Division (MID) investigates and prosecutes health care fraud committed by Medicaid providers and the physical abuse of patients and embezzlement of patient funds in Medicaid-funded facilities. MID works closely with district attorneys’ offices, US Attorneys’ offices, federal, state and local agencies across the State. The damages in a Medicaid fraud case can range from a few thousand dollars to tens of millions of dollars. MID’s enforcement actions protect and recover taxpayer funds and help ensure access to needed medical services for Medicaid enrollees.

  • Experience in designing and using a complex system of analytical tools interacting with numerous disparate databases and large sets of data, to include data management and visualization software (e.g., at least one of R, Python, SAS, Stata, etc.).
  • Experience with or the ability to learn how to implement ongoing systems for the autonomous deployment of data mining scripts and/or the use and/or management of emerging AI technologies and agents in ongoing data-mining campaigns.
  • The ability to work in a team environment with investigators, analysts, and/or attorneys and translate technical data mining campaign results into actionable investigative leads for subsequent investigation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
