Primary Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of this position is to license captive insurers and regulate the financial solvency of captives licensed in North Carolina. The position involves frequent interaction with the management of the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI), captive insurers, captive service providers, and others in the captive industry.

• Lead and manage the Insurance Company Examination team by supervising, training, mentoring, and evaluating examiners; providing technical guidance; managing resources and budgets; and conducting performance appraisals.

• Direct and oversee financial and market conduct examinations from planning and scoping through fieldwork, report development, and resolution of examination findings, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and departmental objectives.

• Review and ensure the quality of examination work products, including work papers, reports, and recommendations, for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and examination standards.

• Serve as the primary liaison with insurance companies, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders by communicating examination findings, leading discussions regarding financial condition and compliance, preparing formal reports, and representing the Department at meetings, hearings, and conferences.

• Provide strategic regulatory and technical leadership by developing examination policies and best practices, monitoring changes in insurance laws, accounting standards, and industry trends, and collaborating on multistate examinations and investigations.

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance regulation and accounting, including Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), North Carolina insurance laws, and applicable federal regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance company operations, products, financial statements, and financial condition analysis, with the ability to identify and evaluate regulatory and operational risks.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop professional staff while fostering a high-performing and collaborative work environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation abilities, with demonstrated expertise in problem-solving, critical thinking, and clearly conveying complex financial and regulatory information to diverse audiences.
  • Technical and professional proficiency, including experience with financial analysis tools and Microsoft Office applications, willingness to travel as required, and possession of a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) or comparable professional designation preferred.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
