The posting

TITLE: DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING INTERPRETER

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. The ability and desire to work with special needs students.
  2. Must participate in an Interpreter Training Program.
  3. Must participate in an official Interpreter Evaluation Assessment.
  4. The willingness to work as a team member with a variety of individuals and take directions from supervisor(s).
  5. Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Kansas driver's.
  6. Must have and maintain a dependable means of transportation.
  7. Ability to lift as required by job.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must maintain Interpreting skills at a qualifying level from one of the state approved programs.

REPORTS TO:

Supervising Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher and District Administrators

Director of Special Education and/or Designee-NKESC

Executive Director-NKESC

JOB GOAL:

To assist the DHH teacher in instructional and non-instructional activities that will lead toward meeting the students' educational needs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in the implementation of educational programs for students under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher.
  2. Provide support for activities outside of school setting (field trips, open house, parent meetings, school programs, etc.).
  3. Participate in available paraprofessional training and in-service necessary to meet KSDE and local guidelines.
  4. Assist in the preparation in instructional materials, collecting of data, completion of forms, assist in evaluation, and other such duties as may be assigned.
  5. Maintain confidential status of all student data.
  6. Responsible for maintaining the physical ability to sign.
  7. Maintain proper license/certificate.
  8. Perform any other duties as directed.
