TITLE: CUSTODIAN (Full-time, Part-time, Hourly, Substitute)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Perform tasks to assist in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  2. Ability to read basic operating instructions.
  3. Some custodial cleaning experience or the ability to be trained in these areas.
  4. Possess good moral character, must have good health and disqualifying physical or emotional disabilities which would impair effectiveness in the performance of the duties of this position.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ACTIVITIES:

Job requires setting and working from extension ladders, moving furniture and furnishings, lifting/stacking supplies, lifting disposal containers (60-80 pounds)

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL, HEAD CUSTODIAN or Designee

This job description is intended to accurately reflect the position’s activities and requirements; however, the administration reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties and assign other duties as necessary. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. To sweep, mop, wax, dust, vacuum, and other general cleaning tasks in assigned area.
  2. To use and maintain floor and carpet machines.
  3. To scrub and disinfect toilet doors daily and clean drinking fountains, urinals, toilet bowls, and other fixtures daily using materials that will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition.
  4. Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year.
  5. To report immediately any damage to school property giving, whenever possible, the name of persons responsible.
  6. To be on duty in the building when events are scheduled outside of regular school hours, if such is requested by the Principal or designee.
  7. To remain on the premises during school hours. He/she shall be absent during school hours only for just and sufficient causes and only with permission of the head custodian or in accordance with a schedule of work hours.
  8. To maintain the lawn and grounds, as directed.
  9. To use universal precautions with the cleaning-up of body fluids.
  10. To perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Head Custodian, or designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve (12) month contract with compensation and benefits approved by school board policies and regulations.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated by the Principal, Head Custodian, or designee in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of support personnel.
