Position Summary
The Staff Software Engineer will be a lead for a surgical robotic platform software development team. This person needs to have strong technical skills as the position will be hands-on. This individual must be capable of creative and systematic product development with minimum supervision. The job requires the individual to be a team player with the ability to function well in a challenging and fast paced environment. Must be enthusiastic, positive, even tempered and have strong skills in areas of dependability, interpersonal relationships, flexibility and professionalism. The position is on-site, not remote.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead design, testing and documentation of robotic platform with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Develop prototypes, proofs of concept in addition to production-quality solutions.
- Carry-out investigations and root cause analysis for troubleshooting
- Ensure efficient performance and scalability of solutions.
- Provide guidance and oversight for other software engineers on the team
- Demonstrate a passion for software development, software craftsmanship, and test-driven development.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another technical field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of professional programming experience·
- Experience developing motion control software·
- Experience developing haptic control software·
- Experience with kinematics·
- Experience with real-time or close-to-real-time systems·
- Experience with surgical navigation software a plus·
- Experience in object-oriented analysis and design·
- Experience programming in C/C++ required; experience with Rust a plus·
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools a plus·
- Experience developing software tools, utilities, and libraries/components·
- Experience in Medical Device field a plus·
- Ability to work independently and as a key contributor in small teams·
- Excellent oral, written, and graphical communication skills·
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
