        SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:

Assists with the planning, coordination, and direction of quality control programs designed to ensure continuous compliance of Water Transmission Products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate lead persons/inspectors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product. Helps QA Manager to formulate and maintain quality control objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals. Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with management to maximize product reliability and minimize costs. Interprets quality control philosophy to key personnel in organization. Helps QA Manager to design and implement quality control training programs to key personnel in conjunctions with managers. Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous monitoring of production in progress as well as finished product. Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to product quality. Assists in the investigation of internal and external customer complaints regarding quality.

  SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises lead and inspector level employees in the QA/QC department.

  INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

Plays an active role on quality management teams within the organization. Applies lean manufacturing concepts and approaches to analytical and reporting processes with each department. Collects and analyzes data in regards to internal non-conformances relating to product quality and reports the information to operations and manufacturing management to support continuous improvement initiatives. Interacts with customer’s inspectors, and engineers to provide required inspection and testing and provide evidence of product conformance. Resolves product non-conformances in conjunction with management and our customers.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Better than average communication skills are required. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and the fundamentals of plane geometry, solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED; 2-3 years of experience in each phase of Production operation including Management of people, Process implementation, Packaging and Logistics. Experience in the Pipe, Steel or heavy highway industry or must be willing to learn and be familiar with the above mentioned.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

AWS CWI and or NACE Level III ASQC-CQM, CQA, or CQE (Preferred) ASNT-UT, PT, VT, RT, MT Level II, or at a minimum knowledge of the NDT test methods.

Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. (This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium,) Stooping: Positions self to access files or lift items off the floor. Kneeling/Crouching: Position self to file documents and open lower drawers as well as to lift boxes and other items. Standing /Sit: Remaining upright in a stationary position, particularly for sustained periods. Walking: Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularity for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

  Less than 1/3 of the time:

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Crawling : Moving about to positon self Reaching: Grabbing things from a distance above or from the side. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting: Raining objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position.

  Physical Requirements

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, including the human body.

Visual Acuity

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Vision Requirements:

The worker is required to have peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)

 

The worker is required to have depth perception (three-dimensional vison, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.)

 

The worker is required to have the ability to adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
