Job Description

Purpose

The Sales Engineer supports the growth of Oceaneering Mobile Robotics (OMR) by leading the development of technically sound, commercially competitive proposals for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) and Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) systems. This role serves as the technical-commercial bridge between customers, sales, engineering, and operations, translating customer workflows and requirements into practical automation solutions that deliver measurable operational value.

The Sales Engineer independently manages complex opportunities, provides technical leadership during the pre-sales process, and influences solution strategy to ensure successful customer outcomes and alignment with OMR business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of technical solutions, system configurations, and proposals for AGV and AMR automation systems.
  • Partner with Sales, Engineering, Controls, and Operations to develop customer-specific automation concepts and deployment strategies.
  • Own technical proposal content, including system descriptions, assumptions, exclusions, requirements, and risk assessments.
  • Lead customer discovery discussions, site assessments, and workflow analyses to identify automation opportunities and operational constraints.
  • Develop and evaluate system alternatives, trade studies, and solution architectures to optimize customer outcomes and business performance.
  • Drive pricing inputs, cost models, and technical-commercial analyses in support of proposal development.
  • Lead technical clarifications, customer presentations, and proposal revisions throughout the sales lifecycle.
  • Ensure proposed solutions align with validated OMR product capabilities, engineering standards, and commercial objectives.
  • Identify technical risks, implementation challenges, and project dependencies during opportunity development.
  • Create thought leadership content, use-case studies, and technical marketing inputs that support OMR growth initiatives.
  • Support Marketing with accurate technical content for presentations, webinars, conferences, and social media.
  • Plan, host, and operate virtual and in-person demonstrations in Houston, TX, at customer sites, and at industry trade shows.
  • Lead customer-facing demonstrations and technical discussions, effectively communicating system capabilities, limitations, and value propositions.
  • Contribute to the development of proposal tools, estimating methodologies, standard solution architectures, and sales engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior sales engineers and provide guidance on solution development, proposal quality, and customer engagement activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering, systems engineering, or solution development within an industrial automation environment.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to translate operational workflows into practical automation solutions.
  • Experience leading technical customer discussions, requirements gathering sessions, and solution development activities.
  • Ability to evaluate technical, operational, and commercial trade-offs while developing customer-specific solutions.
  • Proficiency with common engineering and proposal tools, including CAD viewers, Excel-based cost models, technical documentation, and system layout development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with AGV, AMR, warehouse automation, material handling, or industrial automation systems.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, system layouts, assumptions and exclusions, risk assessments, and cost estimates for automation projects.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or material handling environments.
  • Demonstrated success working across cross-functional teams including sales, engineering, controls, operations, and service organizations.
  • Experience participating in customer site evaluations, automation assessments, or concept development workshops.
  • Experience supporting multi-million-dollar capital equipment or automation opportunities.
  • Willingness to travel domestically (up to approximately 25-50%) and participate in customer visits, site surveys, demonstrations, and trade shows.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
