Job Title: Senior Software QA Engineer Location: Remote (India Based Only) Hiring Manager: Senior QA Engineering Manager Estimated salary range: INR 3,100,000.00 - INR 4,000,000.00 • The salary offered for this position will be based on a candidate’s experience and skill demonstrated during interviews and other evaluations

Position Overview: Ocient is seeking a Senior Software QA Engineer with strong expertise in testing modern web applications. This hands-on role lets you design and lead end-to-end testing for Ocient's user interface. Customers use this browser-based application to write and run SQL, explore results, and monitor and manage their Ocient systems. You will make sure the UI stays correct, reliable, responsive, and usable as the platform grows. You should be: Passionate about the quality of complex, data-heavy user interfaces, with a focus on functional correctness, usability, and front-end performance.

Ready to validate new UI features end-to-end, from design review and test planning to automation and release sign-off, and to share results that inform product direction. Interested in how real users work with large result sets, long-running queries, and live system data, and in building automation and tooling that catches regressions before customers do.

Highly collaborative, proactive, with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently to deliver well-designed, meaningful test outcomes.

Responsibilities: Design and execute comprehensive test plans and automated suites to validate new UI features, workflows, and design changes. Build and maintain browser-based end-to-end automation that covers critical user workflows across supported browsers and screen sizes. Diagnose and harden flaky UI tests using Playwright traces, videos, and network logs. Develop, run, and analyze UI regression tests, ensuring functional stability, visual consistency, accessibility, and responsive performance. Validate the UI against the backend, confirming that what users see matches the underlying SQL query results and REST API responses, including error states, empty states, and large data sets. Collaborate strongly with the UI development team to add tests to nightly CI/QA infrastructure, improve existing test coverage, and improve analysis and reporting tooling. Partner with Product Management and UI/UX design to review requirements and Figma designs early, define acceptance criteria, and confirm the delivered UI matches design intent. Provide technical leadership in defining UI test strategies, frameworks, and best practices, including the right balance of component, integration, and end-to-end tests. Act as a subject matter expert for the UI, partnering with customer operations and development teams on user-reported issues, escalations, and validation. Mentor junior engineers, fostering expertise in UI test automation and quality practices.

Ideal Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. 4-6 years of experience in QA engineering or front-end development, ideally focused on testing complex, data-intensive web applications. Proven experience in test planning, designing, and executing automated, reliable UI test frameworks. Playwright (Python) preferred; experience with Cypress or Selenium is also valued. Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript, with a working understanding of React and modern front-end tooling such as Vite, Vitest, React Testing Library, and Mock Service Worker. Strong QA and debugging skills, with the ability to trace issues across the browser, network requests, REST APIs, and backend services using browser developer tools. Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, with the ability to write queries that verify the data the UI displays. Familiarity with data ingestion sources (S3, Kafka, HDFS). Experience testing accessibility (WCAG), cross-browser compatibility, and front-end performance, including rich components such as code editors, interactive charts, and large virtualized tables. Experience working from design tools such as Figma to validate usability and visual consistency. Proficiency in Python or TypeScript for test automation and tooling. Hands-on experience with JIRA, a test case management system, Git, and CI pipelines such as GitHub Actions. Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf) to author and maintain tests, with the judgment to review generated tests for vacuous assertions and hidden flakiness. Familiarity with Linux, Docker, and cloud environments (AWS or GCP), including deployment and monitoring of web applications. Experience testing applications built on high-performance distributed systems or databases is a strong plus. Ability to analyze complex test results and derive meaningful insights through visualization and test data analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to diverse audiences.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
