The posting

Oculus Design is a strategic design communications agency with over two decades of experience, helping brands communicate through thoughtful and effective design.

We’re looking for an art director with 3–4 years of experience in graphic, communication or editorial design. You should have a good eye for design, an interest in conceptual thinking, and the ability to turn ideas into engaging visual communication.You are hands-on, open to learning and keen to grow your skills across different projects and platforms. Experience working on government or public sector projects is preferred.

Role Description

  • Oversees the development of concepts, storyboards, and design executions across digital and print, ensuring alignment with client objectives.
  • Participate in proposals, developing concepts and conducting research, understanding and breaking down the brief.
  • Day-to-day tasks include developing concepts, graphics and layouts for publications, creating rough drafts based on agreed briefs, guiding designers, reviewing and refining artwork.
  • Use photoshop to apply photo selection, image editing and manipulation skills to strengthen visual storytelling and indesign to select font, determine page layouts and build infographics
  • Collaborate closely with team members and support the presentation of creative concepts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Work with writers, photographers and videographers.
  • Staying current with design and branding trends.
  • Familiar with social media trends and create posts (Static, GIFS, videos) that will engage target audience, and tell a story

Qualifications

  • Portfolio showcasing publication design and social media content
  • Proficiency in graphic design, including layout, typography, colour theory, image manipulation and digital design tools (e.g., Adobe Indesign, Illustrator,Photoshop, Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Good visual judgement, attention t0 detail and an understanding of layout and typography.
  • Demonstrated experience in agency or in-house design environments, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to mentor and support designers and other creative professionals.
  • Proactive team player who is adaptable, responsible and willing to learn.
  • Relevant diploma or degree in Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiar with social media trends and create posts (Static, GIFS, videos) that will engage target audience, and tell a story
  • Familiar with Affect Effects and video editing will be a plus
  • Experience with guiding designers will be a plus

Salary is $4500 and below. If you have insufficient experience, we have open positions for mid-weight designers.
