The posting

Description

We are looking for a Cloud Engineer who is passionate about cloud infrastructure, automation, and continuous improvement. You don't need years of experience to succeed in this role. What matters most is your technical foundation, curiosity, willingness to learn, and motivation to take ownership.

At Ohpen, a cloud-native fintech company, you'll help develop and improve the AWS infrastructure behind our modern core-banking platform, with a particular focus on data and database environments.

You'll join a small, collaborative team where your ideas are valued, you'll have room to grow, and your work will directly contribute to the reliability and scalability of our platform.

Briefing

You'll join our Cloud Engineering database team, currently consisting of two team members and help maintain and continuously improve the infrastructure supporting Ohpen's core-banking platform.

The team has a high level of autonomy, with plenty of opportunities to work on projects that make our infrastructure more efficient, secure, and scalable. This includes improving AWS architecture, developing reusable Terraform modules, and creating internal tools that enable developers to manage infrastructure safely and independently.

A big part of your role will involve automation and operational improvements. You'll help simplify infrastructure provisioning, streamline deployments, strengthen monitoring and observability, and identify potential issues before they affect production. Our approach is to prevent problems wherever possible rather than constantly reacting to them.

Our environment includes more than 100 Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL clusters, so automation plays an essential role in keeping everything running smoothly. From backups and access management to security, performance, and cost optimization, there's always something to improve. We also develop our own tooling to make managing this infrastructure easier and more efficient.

While SQL knowledge or previous database experience would certainly be useful, it's not a requirement. This is primarily a cloud infrastructure and automation role rather than a traditional database administration position.

As you become familiar with our environment, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of infrastructure improvement projects, from identifying opportunities and designing solutions to implementing them in production. We're looking for someone who is proactive, enjoys solving problems, and wants to keep developing their technical skills.

About You

  • You have hands-on experience with cloud technologies, ideally working with AWS infrastructure in a production environment.
  • You are familiar with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and have some experience with networking, Windows/Linux systems, and CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
  • You like exploring generative AI tools to support your daily work and are comfortable reading and understanding code, such as Python or Bash.
  • You are comfortable using Git for version control.
  • You are proactive and independent, comfortable taking initiative while also knowing when to ask for help.
  • You are a good communicator and team player, open to feedback, honest about what you don't know, and eager to develop your skills.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience with database management or administration (DBA).
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
